Can someone tell me if the '32 rails that Dearborn Deuce made are the same as the ones JW Rod Shop makes are the same? What is the overall opinion of the Dearborn rails? Thanks. Bob
I do not know if it is the same or not. I have had the frame under my 32 for over 5 years and am very pleased with it. I am running a super bell front axle with hair pins and a 9" rear with coil overs. I can tell you I feel no frame flex at all.
JW purchased the tooling from Dearborn in late '08-'09. We have used the JW rails since 2010, and we find them to be a better option. They are straighter and require less work to get them into the jig. I've heard the stories about one rail being 1/2" longer and such, but we have never run into that. I would say we are at 100+ frames/ch***is built with the JW rails at this point.
When Dearborn Deuce first started making rails they offered several rod shops rails and boxing plated to try for free. I took a pair and my rail boxer started to install them on the same jig we had boxed several 100 ASC rails on and discovered that one rail was 1/2 inch longer and some of the body mount holes were not quite in the right place. We corrected the problems and used the boxed rails for a project and they were fine. I started using boxed JW rails a couple of years ago and have found that the problems have been corrected and they work better than the rails we were using.
Thank you everyone, this is the info I was looking for. I have the chance to get a pair of Dearborn built rails locally, and wanted to know if they were as good as the JW Rod Shop rails. The plan is to use them with my '30 Roadster body, so any side to side length differance doesn't matter. I'll know if they have the rear C notch when I see them. Bob
