I have a 46 chevy 1/2 ton pu with rack and pinon steering and wan't to leave the 18" steering wheel but not sure about driving with this large steering wheel. Has any one driven a car or truck with a large steering wheel and power steering and what is your opinion. Thanks

  2. Yep. Put 7, 000 miles on a 47 Dodge. 18" wheel and power steering. It was great!

You may find it a little light, but I bet you will get used to it. If not then you can always put in a restrictor, swap pulleys or get a power steering bias adjuster to fine tune.

My "49 leadsled shoebox had power rack steering with the original steering wheel and I thought it was fine. As previously stated it may be a little light , but it was great when parking. Besides, I loved the look of that big ole wheel!

Thanks for the reply. I have another question. Did you use a tilt steering column or stock column. I was going to install a tilt column but the steering wheel will not fit the column spline.

  7. What column are you talking? GM they have the same splines. .......

I hated it. way to light on the freeway. around town was not bad. but reacted to quick changing lanes on freeway.

Great , was contemplating wheel size also, we have fitted power steer to our shoebox and thought 18" may be too big and would need to adjust pump valves to compensate . Though we have gone to a 17" wheel from a 53 anniversary ford.
