So im starting on the interior of my 65 electra. I sit down for the 1st time in the back seat and i sink all the way down to the sheet metal (feels that away anyways). Is my back seat junk? All the spring look attached and none are broken. The seat cover is original and falling apart. How can i stiffing up the seat or is this normal for your **** to fall through the seat? I thought about junking the seat and making a foam one but there lies another problem...i dont know what kinda of foam to buy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure about yours. But I'm sure it like most GMs seat frames. Mines for my 55 springs were real weak from age and rust. I bought 50' of no sag spring material, edge wire, and edge wire clips. And replaced them another thing the edge wire that ties all the spring together adds a lot of strength to the seat. Mine had one down center I put two on just spaced them evenly made a real difference. If your springs are in good shape they may just need tied together. Ron.
Ill have to give it a better look. Hoping in a few day i can start peeling the old seat cover off. Never knew they were tied together like that. Thats for the advice. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
All my tie wires were broke in the area that sees the most use. Even on the back rests. My seat is at the upholster shop now just waiting to get it back. Cars ready for a shake down drive when I get the seat back. Ron
When I rebuilt my front bench, I used this 'hardware cloth' to make it more firm. Zip tied it around all of the edges. This replaces the canvas stuff (the word escapes me at the moment) that usually covers the springs. Made a big different in how firm the seat was when just sitting on bare springs versus bare springs with hardware cloth. You can pick it up at Home Depot. I can't take credit for this idea. I found it in another thread about doing your own seats.
