just thought id see what kinda comments id get, well what do ya think. don't ask me if its gonna work either i didn't think that far ahead.
oh oh...You asked I'd say you oughta start thinking far ahead.... Why would you want or for that matter need a setup like that. Looks like an abortion.... and I never like to critisize others work but i couldn't help myself. Time to go back to the drawing board.
An unusual approach, but it looks workable. It's the usual 1/2 elliptic spring, but inversely hung. The big thing working against it is looks. It's not as elegant a solution as the transverse spring or 1/4 elliptics.
Kinda spooky lookin' aside from that, I'd say you need a panhard to make the front end stay where you want it to/make the thing turn at speed.
Ah common tell us what ya really think. Probably be less breezy with gl***. Oh the front suspension? Well its different. If it works let us know.
I don't know...that fan looks awfully small to cool that engine... I agree on the panhard, looks like things would get pretty twisty upfront, probably not safe without it...
Your setup should work just fine, save for being a little harsh on the kidneys with that many leaves in..... You should not need a panhard bar with the leaves mounted as such, though you might want to brace the mid-mount a little bit more against lateral stress. I think your bigger issue is tires!!! DAMN!! Let us know how it handles.... after you get better rubber...
They used to make underslung cars like that back in early 1900s. It may not be the most elegant setup I've ever seen, but I like it because it took some creativity to come up with it and fab the center mounts. The frame horns hanging out like that scare me because they look like they'd har**** any road debris. What's your beef with quartereliptical springs? They might look a bit tidier... Well, in any event, be sure to post when you finish it because I'd love to see what you do!
I'd say it still looks too much like a "coupester", but I can't tell because of that weird thing parked in front of it.
What keeps the frame from dragging the ground? Is the center plate connected to the frame? Need a better pic of that section of the set up.
hey those bad boys are "Z" rated, as for the panhard it is gettin one just haven't gotten that far yet, ill also be runnin a 33-6 chev pu grill. transverse is too overdone, nothin against it i personnally just got tired of lookin at it. also, do you think we'd be where we are today if we did everything the safe way!
Big ones on the back, little ones in the front. As for the suspension, you don't live in Idaho so go ahead... Seriously, it'd take someone with more suspension knowledge than me to answer that.
that's a cantilevered semi-eliptic arrangement. An advantage of it would be adjustable ride hieght. Didn't one of the street rod builders, Posies, Lobeck maybe, build something like that a few years ago with bags or linier actuators to faciltate adjustment?
As poorly as the writing is, Nissan has paid me to write field instructions for industrial equipment modifications. Yes, I'm guilty of causing some guy to say "what the **** is that suppose to mean!!!!" But hey, it was that or build a few thousand more "specialty transmissions" for them.
**** 'Em and Feed "Em Fishheads .LOL You go get on outside that box .Only I'd use a Jacobs ladder as opposed to a panard bar to keep from pushin' the front axle from side to side.Panard bars ****. T.OUT
P.S. In fact I like that so much I may have to consider usin' somethin' similar on a rear end ***y. T.OUT
The pivot points of the drag link and the hair pin look pretty close (same arc) so there shouldn't be too much bump steer. If it were me, I would box in the area where the spring U bolts are attached so it would be super strong and/or incorporate a screw jack device so it could be raised or lowered. Just make that area as strong as possible. pigpen
I have a friend building something somewhat similar except he hid the spring pack in the frame....I know the frame wouldn't sit as low but much neater appearance.
well, uh... um,, and uh... well, your steering link and your hairpins should be on about the same arc. good deal there, but ummmm...
yaknow,,, if ya put them spring seat mounts on screwjacks, that'd be pretty kickin really... ride high for goin, set it in the dirt for showin
