IMO, the chrome reverse wheel is the best looking wheel ever. It is a timeless cl***ic that makes EVERY car look better. G***ers, Kustoms (with spider caps and thin or wide whitewalls), street racers (can you say "Milner"?)and more. Subtle enough for a high schooler's four door, and flashy enough for a show car. Showing up on the scene around '58, the era-correct application base is huge. So let's see some Chromie love, and post some photos of the best wheel ever! (Whenever I try to upload pictures to the HAMB, from photobucket OR my computer, sometimes they upload, sometimes they fail- LIKE RIGHT NOW! All are photos from the same camera! So you're going to have to start without me)

And here's my first use of chrome reverse - and my latest use of them last year....

  3. I've always been a fan of chrome wheels, but I've never cared for the 'smoothie' type except on some early cars (pre-50). The 'vented' type to me look much better on the later cars and most hot rods, particularly with the larger hub caps.

First set of wheels I ever bought... $70 for all four, new in the boxes....

I don't care for the "smoothie" style, chrome reverse either; I like the original style with the hub cap retaining bumps. Then, use a set of 55 or 56 Chevrolet dog dish caps (GM cars of course), or the 63 style. Some of the Nova/Camaro and 60's Pontiacs hub caps also look good. JMO. I never really cared for the baby moon with chrome reverse look. Butch/56sedandelivery.

I completely agree, the look is understated and cl***ic, especially with some wide whites! But... I know this makes me sound completely ignorant!

So WTH are chrome "reverse" wheels??? Does this actually mean chromed steelies mounted backwards, and if so how in the heck does one add hubcaps with the retaining nibs mounted on the inside?

I need some old kool schooling!

The rim is reversed (inside out), the center is not. Essentially, the centers are flipped and welded in the other way so the nubs to mount caps would still face outward, if that makes sense.

I like Chrome Reverse Rims but I wouldn't call them timeless. I remember a time when they were p***e.

That's exactly what I do every single time. I believe that it's a file size issue, but I thought that Photobucket took care of that. Every photo was taken with the same camera, so why are some accepted and others not?

In the mid 60's, I remember the price of $8.95/+ shipping, or a full set of baby moons, $7.95 from J.C.Whitney and bought good used tires at the junkyard for $5.00/ or Abel Label tires, new from Gimbels Dept store for around $9-10.00/.+shipping and don't forget port a walls $1.25/. Memory has faded some, Have popular old man brain problem C.R.S. but I think the recap cheater/ street slicks were only $20.00/. Big cash for the "day" Different times, but then a 2.00/ hour job, for kid was a Good paying job in 1964. John

At that time a lot of adults didn't make much better than $2 an hr.

Because you didn't set your size, when you opened your Photobucket account. You want 600 X 800 or web page size.

Chrome reverse look nice, but best? Close second to the Cragar SS.

When I got my first car, a '73 Pontiac Lemans, the first thing I wanted was Cragars. Chrome Reverse was for old guys. Sticker shock kept me awake for days and after the shaking went away, I brought Appliance 5 spokes. Close, but not Cragars. It was 4 years later and a over paid union job at the post office, that allowed me to have my Cragars. I even had them on my same size spare.

If you have a low slung custom, a set of chrome reverse wheels with spider centers makes it. If you're building a car with a race theme, then the Cragar's are the way to go or a combination of chrome reverse with Cragar's also looks pretty cool.
