My '51 Olds has a '53 Chevy grill surround. When I did it originally a tube grille was planned, fishing for other traditional ideas.
Got any pics? I always like a floating grille bar in a '53 mouth, like a 55 Olds or a 55 Desoto bar. Could just do a 53 Chevy grille bar crammed full of extra teeth too, or early 60s corvette teeth. Two dummy spots turned around backwards with a simple chrome bar between them looks clean and cool too. Expanded metal mesh with drawer pulls can be cool if done right. Lots of options out there. Good answer, Canada Jeff. Covers a lot of bases. My first thought was the Olds bar. The Vette grille works very well, and reproductions are available. '53 chevy teeth are no longer re-popped, and very hard to find. Here is an example of a strait bar (from carnut). Here is a '55 Ford grille, used with '53 chevy park lights (from Kustomrama).
Mo, the straight bar option is very cool, simple and classy. The floating look is a classic style from that era , only thing is I would retain the chrome around the grill and not paint or powder coat it
Damn, Mo, now you got me thinking about pulling the front end of my car apart! That single bar looks killer. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Well, it's not a '53 Chevy grille surround like the O.P. was asking about, but here you go... '51 DeSoto teeth in a '49 Merc grille surround. That's my kid trying to dry off the car while it's still raining. Kept him busy for about 15 minutes!
Thanks, Jeff! A whole lot of work in that one! Non-Chevy owners might take that one piece hood for granted! Beautiful job all around. And yes, that straight bar would also look great there!
just grab a pile of old car stainless and start mixing and matching. here's the pile I started w/ to end up w/ this: the whole build can be checked out in the link below. Jeff
Good on you for thinking out of the box! looks amazing! jcs64, always loved your car and the homemade merc shell and grill is killer! awesome job man! Brent
