I have similar spare Oldsmobile RHD & LHD boxes & columns. Too far to send though. Have you tried Kanter?

 

You may find that other 48 GM steering boxes are similar- check Chevy, etc,

 

Can we use also steering gear boxes from other cars?
Whats important to fit into the original place?

 

With that year GM's Pontiac, OLDs 88 and the Buick Special (small body) were using a similar manual steering gearbox. The only exception was the Buick Station wagon.

Are you still looking for one? Did a power steering conversion on my project so the original steering box is more or less surplus...

 

Hey check out a '48 Cadillac steering box, see if it will fit. I have one that was cut at the firewall the box seems fine. I bought the car with it in the trunk. If your interested in it let me know @ captguido@comcast.net
