My '41 caddy has what is supposed to be a '64 caddy 429,it's tired and can get a deal on a 500 What interchanges in the 429,472,500,425 family and how can I tell the long blocks apart? Do exhaust manifolds exchange? there isn't much out there in interchange information.

I don't think much of anything interchanges, the 472/500/425 are a different generation of engine entirely. They are as similar as a 396 and a 409 Chevy.

This engine has a HEI from a 472 and a TH400 that I had recently rebuilt, the core was from an Olds. Maybe it isn't a 429...........can't find casting #'s,all ground of when the block was smoothed...Olds tran is/was same case as the original.......anyone else know them?

Any late buick olds or pontiac uses the same trans pattern as a Caddy. I don't know if the 429 has what is called the B.O.P.C. pattern but I think it does

Nothing interchanges between 429 and 472/500 engines

Based on this info,I must have 425,472 or 500. How can I deteremine which one I have? All the casting #'s were ground off to smooth it before painting?

Distributor in the front or rear is the first clue. Front would be 425, 472 or 500.

The stock right side manifold on a 425 usually has a flat spot on the front exhaust port that cuts off a fair amount of flow from that cylinder compared to the others. It was to clear the a frame on the chassis.
