Has anyone ever swapped a 5-speed into an early non-V8 Falcon? I'm just wondering how it's done and if it's possible to do without a lot of custom machine work.

  2. You didn't say what engine you're mounting it to, but I've gotta T5 behind a turbo 2.3L in my 61 Comet, and it was in my 60 Falcon. The T5 is huge compared to the stock manual trans so I cut out the trans tunnel on both. The Comet had a bolt-in x-member that I modified, the Falcon didn't so it was more work. I'm sure several people have bolted a T5 to a straight-six, and there's probably an adapter available. The Ford Falcon News board (tffn.net) is a good resource.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

Thanks Kurt. Just FYI, I was talking about putting a 5-speed in an otherwise stock Falcon with the OE eye sicks.

They were and are a stock item here in Australia, we have the T 5's behind our 6 motors , we still have 6's in production and some wild ones at that.

yes adaptors are available to fit to the stock bellhousing, but i'd really consider digging up a 200 or 250 engine. the smaller engines are gonna run out of power to push the car around in OD. go with a 200 or 250 and you can bolt on a stock bellhousing to match the t-5. i used a later model mustang bell with the cable clutch behind a 250, super smooth shifting, and no funky parts to make.

  6. BC327, you didn't buy that one that was in St. Charles on fordbarn, did you? I was seriously considering it, but I bought a Mustang for the Mrs. instead. It's ok though, now I got her off my back for awhile.;) :D

I did not. Didn't even know about it, actually. Just thinking and building up my storehouse of knowledge.

Seems to me like an I-6/T-5 Falcon with discs up front would be about the ultimate daily driver.

You can use a nissan 5 sp with 1/2" aluminum plate to adapt, stock nissan disc was a little smaller than cover but it worked......uh, dont ask me why I know this!

What year and model Nissan is that, a truck? Demand for Japanese parts around here is likely less than for Mustang parts and that would probably lower the price.

    my 65 was a 6 cyl.
engine and tranny were swaped out together. It ended up with a HO 302 and a t-5... Not too much modification to make it fit. trimming a motor mount or two

These guys have a kit for the Early Mustangs that use the stock bellhousing. As far as I remember the input shaft of the newer transmissions are longer so you need to space the trans back and bolt holes aren't quite the same. The adapter takes care of both issues. There was a great site that showed the junkyard way to swap later trans to the 6 but it seems to be down. It just showed how to make the adapter and the clutches/throw out to use etc. It also showed some Ford 4 speed SROD swap info too. Stu

  15. T5 bolt up to an inline 250, but the 250 is a bit of squeeze in a roundbody Falcon. The 200 is a bolt-in to the Falcon and there's adapters kits to fit the T5. More aftermarket goodies for the 200, too. Moderndrivelines.com recommends a shortshift kit for the some Falcons due to a crossmember, benchseat or something.

I have a 250/T5 combo in my 66 Ranchero, the last of the Falcon Rancheros.

Just for the record, a fellow on FordSix.com gave me this explanation, which I think is excellent. I took the liberty of cleaning it up and editing it a bit.
