pertronix with msd blaster 2 coil

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by THIRD PEDAL -lane, Sep 29, 2013.

  1. i.have a ignitor 2 and flamethrowe 2 coil on my truc and it works great, i just got a ignitor 1 for the 170 in my ranchero and i know it works with astock coil ihave twoblaster 2 coils my buddy gave me that say they will workwith stockpoints so i would think a blaster 2 would work with a ignitor 1 , im asking cause the stock coil is damn corroded and trashed so why spend money when i have 2 coils right there , curious if its worked for others and their take on it

I would always be waiting for a failure to happen with possible mismatch parts like that. Taking a chance blowing the module.

If I'm not mistaken, I checked with Pertronics and they said the Blaster 2 would work with the Igniter II but not the Igniter I.

    Call them up and check

Yeah, check with Petronix first. I had the same question with another coil. I went and bought a Pertronix matching coil and never looked back.

The Ignitor I likes 3Ω resistance when run with a 12v 6 cyl motor. That blaster II has only .7Ω resistance, so you would need to use at least a 2.3Ω ballast resistor with it

My advice would be to follow hotroddon or DubP advice (dubp hasn't chimed in here yet)

They work for Pertronics, but for faster, call them

When I mentioned my previous advice, I forgot that 6 cyl calls for different than 8 for some reason
