vintage looking tires (what should i get)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by model A hooligan, Sep 30, 2013.

  1. so i have the 29 a coupe, over the years im slowly doing changes, ive decided to go just a tad lower and its time to confront what ive been avoiding.my tires

ive had trailer tires and wires, rode to hard, now im on 16's out back with 215 85's van tires, and 15's up front with 135 vw tires.the look is close, but not close enough, now id like white walls but im not sure if money or if my car can even pull that look off.

its been gone over and ive searched up the tires that you guys have posted, (kuhmo, cooper, and wallmart) "earlly style tires" and they look like hell.im also having a hard time finding tirs for the 16's in the size i want. i suppose in bias they would be 750's and aout 525's is what id like. so whats the deffinative cheapest rout that still looks good?be it white wall or blackwall.also be it radial or bias. to me radial looks like hell but bias ride like hell (at least mine did) can we talk about whats the best option?

it does have 40 ford center caps on it now

  3. You are running a light car on big car tires and that is where your rough ride comes from. At least a big part of it.

What a lot of the fellas have had to do is run the tires low. Say 18 psi as opposed to 30 psi. You will also want to look for 4 plys as opposed to 6 plys. 6 plys are easier to find in a bias ply these days but 4 plys can be had.

I have said it before and I will say it again the best place in the world to find new bias ply tires is a farm store or farm coop. I get my bias plys from a farm coop in lincoln nebraska. They don't make any bones about shipping them to me.

Anyway it is at least worth a try.

  4. i do run my tires at about 18 in the rear. the fronts are bug tires and i dont really have a complaint about them.just are not skinny enough,im going to jag rear coil overs in the rear this weekend but still think it will be a bit of a ruff ride since my car weighs nothing.

i have no idea where a farm store is,i live in a very populated area.there is not much farming here at all.any leads?

  5. Search farm Stores or farm Coops in Central Calif. or Stocton Area.Several will pop up. Trust me.

    Here's a start for you.

You may have to look as far south as Modesto.

Coker has a California warehouse. That'll save you quite a bit on shipping. Join the alliance and you'll also get a substantial discount.

model A hooligan, if you find something at Coker, then check with Summit.
No sales tax and no shipping. I saved over $350 on shipping alone on my order of tires and wheels. Or pick them up at a Goodguys event, Coker will deliver them to you there, no shipping, but will be taxed.
How about wire wheels with Coker's radial blackwalls.

  15. motoandy, yes i know they are tubed radials,we have them on a 33 pickup.im not a huge fan of their look.

and 41,dont know if i mentioned it or not,i have wire wheels. and they are NOT going back on this car.but the the summit tip ill look into, you can order coker from summit?id liek to do a pickup at event but i wont have the coin for a little while and the last goodguys is upon us!

  16. well my price was like 815 if i did the math correctly.i wonder how much id save
