My shop is in a rural area just outside our city limits so there is always critters about.About a week ago this dog started showing up I guess somebody dumped her out here .So I started feeding her and now the shop is her place .She is a great dog and obeys most commands. She was really shy and skittish which leads me to believe that she has been abused.I have two dogs at home and can't take her there so I guess she has to stay at the shop unless I can find a good home for her. To keep this hot rod related I am working on a customers car (scrape's dad) that has a built up 500 caddy in it and when I fired it up to turn it around today she ran and jumped inside for the ride instead of running from the loud exhaust!!!:)

Ah basket cases, be it wheels and metal, or bone and flesh, tug at the heart strings. Just look at my avatar.

If your able to to keep her at the shop, I'd say do it. Let's face it a dog like that in most other hands isn't going to be able to give her the love and care as you. That's evident.

  7. I think she would make an awesome shop dog. Keep her!

Someone needs to take that dog and give her a real home man. Pits make the best family dogs in the world - it's all in how they are raised...

What a beautiful dog! I've always loved pits-it's a shame the way they've been demonized. That of course, may work in your favor as a guard dog! She has that cool 'knowing' look in her eye and I bet she has that cool pit 'smile':D

Yep, that's happening all over the country now and you can thank a relatively small segment of irresponsible, low life dog owners for it.

Cool dog, man, you should keep her if you can. Anybody who rescues a dog is alright in my book.:)

Man, that thing is cool. I've always heard those dogs are highly trainable, if done right, they can be the best in the world. If done wrong, they make the news headlines. I think the whole lock jaw thing scares people also, I've heard it can even affect homeowners insurance.

What's the debate? Its a done deal. She has adopted you so she will stay. Its wonderful that you are willing to take in this possibly-abused stray, especially since she is one of those "nasty" pit bulls. My vote is to keep her. Besides every shop needs a shop dog. Elpolacko has two great shop dogs.

Misguided, abusive people are the reason for the laws against pit bulls. Those laws ban the wrong creature. They should be banning the abusive pit bull owners. All animals will treat you the same way you treat them and they react out of fear. Always show them they do NOT have to be afraid of you. You'll win a friend everytime.

If you can, adopt a stray animal. You'll both be the better for it. We have four cats in our big house and they are all former strays. They are all wonderful companions and each accepts love and gives it right back. And if you do adopt a stray animal, you better take care of it or I'll be after you in a heartbeat and so will most of the people here on the HAMB. You can take that to the bank.

Try to tell that to the councilmen/women in Denver and Aurora...according to them they are the most deadly breed out there...they just outlawed Pit Bulls...Denver's is permanent--no pitbulls allowed, in Aurora it costs you a $200 licensing fee to keep one and you must carry $100,000 worth of injury insurance..bunch of morons!

my pits have the exact same markings. I have a matching unrelated pair. Dark brindles just look so mean, it intimidates people

before ya know it she will warm up to you (after she knows you wont beat her)
mine bites sparks when I am grinding

  18. great looking dog ya got there, we have a Pit/Lab mix, what a crazy hyper dog but the comic relief is outstanding. as other have said it's the owners NOTthe dogs that make the mean or bad. hell i had a lab i trained as a gaurd dog that would rippp ur face off in a heart beat but was the most loving dog u'd ever meet...

they tried that here in my town & was sued. the law was removed from the books & u can tell it by the number of pitbull & mixed pitbull u'll see. like i said b4, its NOT the dog thats the problem, its the owner who makes it mean & can not or will no control the dog

then they better add a few dogs, like german shepherds, rots, labs, dobs, and even some of the smaller dogs. ANY dog can kill or mame you. hell i had a nieghbor who had a damn poodle that was trained as an attack dog & SOB was crazyyyyy. so for them to say it's only Pitbulls it evident somebody isnt doing thier home work....

Always warms my heart to rescue a dog, my buddie shown here I saved from a dog pound. I drove 200 miles to get him and it was worth it, I ALWAYS get my dogs from the pound and I ALWAYS keep them for life. They give more than they take. Rick

  21. Dobies can be very dangerous also...a pair of them attacked my grandfather who was out walking a pair of british bulldogs down his residential street in Ottawa. Those british bulls are the nicest dogs I have ever seen, and very easy going. Noone even sees them as being dangerous. They killed the two dobermans in under 30 seconds before they did more than knock my grandfather down.

The poor bulldogs almost got destroyed because the owner of the dobermans said they were dangerous because they killed his dogs when his dogs attacked attacked an 80 year old man who walks with two canes.

Any dog can be dangerous if not brought up and treated right. But any dog raised right can be a great dog. They need to ban the bad owners, not the dogs.

Now thats a good story! And its true, they make some of the best pets out there. My friend has two Blue Nose pitts. The only problem is he cant keep the neighbors from calling the police. Its a shame what people have done to ruin that breed. Infact I have two English Bulldogs and I had some guy from around the corner call the police on me and tell them that my pitbull attacked his wife and grandson. He had the balls to knock on my door and say he is the one that called, made up the story (cause I had no idea who he was) and he will have my dogs taken away, I tried to explain to him that first off they are bulldogs, even showed him the papers, I also tried to explain to him they are never outside alone and are two of the sweetest dogs. He kept on digging about having my dogs put to sleep. Now I am not the type of person to talk disrespect to an older man but he pushed my buttons. The cops never bothered me and from what i was told the neighbor has since moved to Florida. But its amazing how dumb people are.

    Anway, good luck with her!

congrats, she is a real beauty. its nice to see a fellow rodder in the same heart as myself. i have 2 strays (oddly enough happened to be a female pedigree boxer and a pit/lab mix) and they are mine and my girlfriends life. she prolly has it much better at your shop than she did out in the wild...people always think that since they are animals they can just exist outside. unfortunately, bowls of meat and water dont exist out in the wild, and they can also become prey to either other bigger animals or cars...so you are doing the right thing. you might have saved her life! kudos to you my man!

  24. Good for you! She seems like a good dog and given a little time will become your best buddy at the garage.

Yeah I can't beleive she survived out here because every time I'm out here late you can hear the coyotes howling in the woods where she was staying beside my shop.My shop belongs to her now she follows me around and isn't scared by air tools or grinders.Someone spent time training her because she responds to commands relly well. Why dump (or abuse)a dog this good ?The way she is staying around the shop even when I'm not there tells me she is not the type to run away.We have a miniture dachshund and a doberman lab mix at home. The dachaund came from a breeder across the street from me and the mix was from the local shelter and they rule the house!:) The dachshund is 10lb. and 3 years old and beats up on the 45lb. 7 month old mix !:):)I wasn't really a dog person until we got the dachshund now I'm just a big softy I guess.

I have 3 worthless dogs. Enos, Cletus, and Cooter. They all think they are lap dogs and range from 86-120 pounds.

Enos, the big one, tends to scare off unwanted guests though so he actually earns his keep. The other two manage to keep the yard fertilized. I swear they manage to shit twice what they eat.

My old Red Bone Hound "Rosco" would wag his tail right up until the momet he bit you. That dog was insane. We would shoot off bottle rockets in the yard and he would chase them, catch them, and let them explode in his mouth. It was probably for the best that he got ran over by a Peterbuilt. I kept him in the freezer until the ground thawed so I could bury him.....in July. Ha Ha Ha

To this day nothing will grow where I buried him, he was that kind of evil.

Awesome that you're keeping her. She's a beautiful dogger.

I am absolutely convinced that a stray/pound rescue dog or cat or bird KNOW what you've done for them...KNOW that you rescued them from certain death. And they repay you with 110%, full-on unconditional love.

I'm a big softie for the furry and feathered friends out there.

  28. Hey I can relate to you as we also ended up with 2 strays one we have had since 1999 & the other since 2000. We live in a rural area & people from town seem to think it is easier to abandon unwanted family members out here rather than take them to the animal shelter. The female showed up in 1999 & took an instant bonding to our boy who was 2 at the time & it took days before she would even let me close enough to pet her. The male was a puppy just trundeling along the side of the road when I found him.(we have other neighbors who have also ended up with dogs and some with cats - I HATE people who abandon dogs and cats) Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy

My first American Pit Bull was named Roxy. I was working at a machine shop and the shop dog was having puppies. I got pick of the litter for birthing them. She was a brindle as well. I had a night job at a local Pier 1 Imports and she would hang out in my apron pocket........she rode EVERYWHERE in my 67 Mustang. Slept on the trans hump under the dash by the heater. She ate the stucco off the house, chewed thru fences, dog houses.........everything, but NEVER chewed on that car.

    I miss her.:(
