Thinking of the HVLP Turbine systems and see two styles of guns offered, the bottom feed gun with a cup hanging down and then there is also the gravity feed gun with the cup up top.

Which is better, or what do you guys prefer and why ?

Looking at the Fuji systems along with others.

  2. I used a cheap siphon gun for decades and did okay with it, but 5 years ago bought a gravity HVLP Sharpe and put the 3M "PPS" disposable cup liner system on it and man it that nice. Shoots in any orientation and uses about 1/10 the solvent for clean up. it is worth ensuring your choice has that capability.

I have both and the only difference is the bottom mounted cup has a curved tube that helps keep the metallics mixed. Other than that I don't really see any difference in how they work.

We use the cheap HVLP guns with the platic cup mounted on top for primers. Epoxy primers are hard on guns and when they start to screw up we throw them away. We use a Croix turbine with the bottom mounted cup and 1 MM tip for paints. We tried the Croix pressure pot gun for awhile but it was too awkward. We've used a Croix turbine for top coats since 1992.

I just prefer the feel and balance of a top cup gun.
I also think it uses ALL the paint in your gun, where a bottom cup leaves a little in the cup when it stops spraying.
