Amazing. Just got a speedway flier in the mail, the Ultimate kit? For only fifty grand you get a car without motor, trans, driveshaft, exhaust and details. Probably could pay someone to finish it with a crate motor for another 10. Could do as well at Barret Jackson, but a guy would have to say he bought it and not built it. Probably will sell like hotcakes.

Oh Man - don't complain about prices of 32's, you'll be accused of being obsessed with money.

    DON'T GO THERE.
    TRUST ME.

    Cob

Then again 50K for a kit and another 50K to have someone finish it and wallaaa thats why guys are asking 100K for them.
    Simple math.

i went on a tour through the speedway museum saturday and got to see one of these cars... they only come painted red... and no top... but they are built real well... look good... but they are ***led as a 05 kit car and you get to pay taxes on that 50 grand that ya pay for it and no way to license it as a cl***ic car so think of the personal property taxes ya get to pay on that baby....

  7. A couple fo years ago I was visiting some friends that own a street rod company. They build the bodies and purchase a good high quality etc.

I asked about thier rides and at the time rollers, no upholstery etc were about 30K.
The owner who is a good friend of mine told me I wasn't interested in one of thier cars, they were for the guys that couldn't or wouldn't build one on thier own. Then said if I was after a body or project to go to his barn and pic out the kind of car that I really liked and grinned at me:D

They do build a real ride for someone who is into a high zoot ride.

    :)

50 Grand is chump change.... :D to the Folks he is targeting. Not everyone is a broke ****.....or a have not.

4 years ago I had open heart surgery. 5 byp***es. The surgeon who did it got 20 grand. He does 4 a week.......and works almost every week.

    4 X 20 = 80 grand a week...
    45 weeks a year at 80 grand = over 3.5 million.

I know he has expenses, insurance, office staff and such....OK take away 1.5 million......that still leave 2 million.....a year. His Father, brother and brother-law all are in the same business.......

Do you think 50 - 60 grand would STOP them ?
    I do not think so....

    :)

Ive seen their car up close and personal too. Its not for me either but I learned along time ago there's an *** for every seat.
This car is a good setup for that weekender who just gotta have one of them hot rods ! Been dealing with people in the Harley world JUST like them who gotta have a harley when nothin else will do. they spend so much friggen money just to ride when the sun is shining in their condex ***ociation somwhere. Hang in there Hamb'ers we're gonna be able to buy those unwanted hotrods someday ! The wife just has to park her new beemer suv in the garage, and when she does I'll be there to scoop the almost new unused hot rod or harley !

Saw one of these over the summer. Design and build quality was typical Speedway. I was not impressed.

from what I understand, Speedway has them built in South Africa by the company that does the Cobra roadster and Daytona Coupe the same way. You get a roller and add your own Motor and Trans.

Not for me but as stated else were, there is a **** for every seat, and a lot of ****'s have more money than automative skill.

When I worked in the machine shop at Speedway I got to help build the frame on that car (even helped push it into the trailer to transport to South Africa, didn't see it back for years!) Real nice car and all, but not my style, either. I'd rather piece together one of my own...since I'm a bit low on dough!

  14. Look at it this way, a couple of years ago an unemployed comedian turned hot rod critic payed a pro-builder over 200k to build him a tri 5 chebby. I wasn't really impressed with it but someone was.
he was happy as a pig in chit, and even boasted that he got to help on the build.

I guess if someone is happy with it I don't have any beef with it. It aint their fault I prefer to play with my own.

  15. Hell, I need to go back to school!

I agree, I tried a 37 -41 Ford spindle , disc brake conversion kit from speedway, brackets needed to be shimmed beyond belief to make calipers line up, spacers were missing, not happy................

I got that flier a couple weeks ago. It didn't sound too bad to me actually. It's a new STEEL body, new frame, brakes, electrical, wide whites, seat, gas tank, ect...

You'd be into it for damn near as much if you had to buy all those parts seperate.
