Well, after 5 years, I'm not renewing my sub. I just can't handle it anymore.

  4. Yes I still read it because if you look at all the other car magazines there are not to many with any old car stuff. Example; How to make your Jap car look ugly with tall wheels & goofy tires without any sidewalls. Or, how to put a cone tip muffler on that Jap*****. Or, hang a body kit on that car that was made by the same folks who brought us Pearl Harbor! Or, how to make your car look cool with stick on's.......Anyway - you know what I mean.:D Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy

I got a subscription for Fathers day, received my first issue last week! The mag seems to be struggling, I'm worried if It'll be around long enough for me to get all six issues.

Is Rolls & Pleats still around? I can't seem to find it anymore. If so, where do you get 'em?

That magazine has ALWAYS*****ed. The concept of a Custom Rod is stupid. The onliest reason for it at all that I can see is to keep the billited up turd wagons out of R&C. Totally useless waste of paper. And too slick for toilet paper. Jerry W is an idiot. In print or in person. Big fragile ego. Idiot.

That mag went to***** a while ago.
Back in the early 90's that mag was what introduced me to Kustoms.
It's always had some lame cars featured but, they made up for it by
showing new traditonal and original kustoms from the 50's.
they also had cool tech and model features.
The show coverage was essential because pops wouldnt roll me out to Paso.
My favorite was that they always kept tabs on old Kustoms that were found
    and being restored.
I havent even looked in one for three years now! R&P,Garage,CKD,Rodders Journal, Rod and Kulture and Dice have what I'm lookin for these days.

Just got my last issue of Custom Rodder and I'm not going to renew. When Rob and then Jerry ran the show, they featured cars that I could relate to. Since CR was taken over by Primedia and gained their advertising base, it's become Bling City...:( Anyone besides me notice that more advertising equates to less enjoyable reading? I know ads are necessary for a mag to survive, but the advertisers shouldn't completely dominate the content.

OUCH! OK, I'm not complaining anymore that the positive R&C posts fell off so quickly if this is the alternative.

It has definately gone down hill. I was really introduced to customs by it way back some time in the late 80's early 90's. I think the worst ever featured was the Elcamino or Ranchero or what ever it was Harry Bently Bradly I think built. You know the one that was a different color on each side. Looked like some MadMax sh#t but with less design continuity. I like some of the stuff Bradly designed way back when but most of his new stuff looks like*****. This might make some folks mad but I don't see how that can be called GOOD design.

If I convince Damon to join here, will you all call him names and personally blame him for everything that's wrong with CR?

i really dont mind the mag, i have talked to damon a few times and he seems to be a good guy, got a pic of his 63 dodge that is in progress to being a killer early 60s styled custom. anyone that wants to make money has to do what they have to do, they are a tad bigger than rolls and pleats and the such, so they are going to try to appease a larger audience, but beyond that i kinda like the bling cars, just for the simple fact they usually have some really trick work done to it..efi setups, alot of them have power racks and 4 wheel discs, and alot of them have some real creative work done. i look past the new school rodness and learn alot from them. just to try and show the other side of the new editor, check his in progress project....its got a 383 in it and will be dark blue (paint) with a 4 bucket 300 interior. tre cool.

  21. Yeah, I let it lapse a few years back too. It just didn't do much for me anymore and the features seemed to be near stockers with billets. That's just not my thing.

As for me missing Jerry Weesner, no. Not at all. Iwas happy to hear of his retirement when he left CR and SR. He was a wealth of knowledge but his writing style made me sick. Half (equal parts as divided by two) of the damned (and I do mean damned) articles he wrote (authored) was in parantheses (you know those things that make it seem like you're talking on the side) and it was too much to take!!!

Hey RF, I wasn't trying to bust anyone. I just don't like the current direction, so I won't continue to subscribe.

I met you, you gave me a CR Top10 for my primer blue 54 chevy at Columbus GG's in 01, and then my buddy's gold 61 lesabre the next year, so I've been biased about the mag. Having you and Riz sitting there eating our food and BSing was cool for us ohio hicks, considering there was alot of other people you could've been sitting with.

I always tried to see the good stuff. But I just plain don't enjoy it now.
This isn't an attack on the current editor. It's just not for me anymore.

I still "read" it, if flipping thru it at the supermarket counts. Like Brewsir said, there's probably not enough worthwhile content to last thru a good*****!

The thing that always got me was they made up a definition for "custom rod" The name of the mag was ok, but then it seemed they wanted to change kustoms into custom rods. Sorta like what how hot rods became known as street rods due to the magazines. It seemed this was something they tried to do in every issue and there is no such thing as a custom rod. Then they said a custom is only 49 and after, that even a taildraggin 36 ford was not a custom but a street rod. This was repeated in every issue.

However it seems the magazine did help with the resurgent of customs. Customs weren't very popular in the 80's and got lumped in the street machine class at many shows.

    So? You want a brownie*****on?

Grumpy, I wasn't bustin your balls...I said that for Damon's sake, as he's been spared the personal****ault.

Irregardless (!), I never felt CR really fit in here for the pure sake of its modern tendencies, but in the same breath, I didn't hesitate to defend it for quite a while, but that was from a content direction standpoint, not a traditional thing. I think everyone knows where my "tastes" are, and Damon's are pretty much the same...except for that Mopar***** he deviates to!

so you have to be a "veteran" for you to have a valid opinion???
I thought this place was different than that.
No one said anything bad or even personal about Damon so get your******** out of their bunch. The guy ASKED who likes the magazine and he got answers. Don't like the answers? too bad.
