You have to visit Adams doughnuts in Huntington Beach at 5am saturday morning for best free car show you will ever see, called the doughnuts derelicts!
Timing may not be right, but there will be a nice motorcycle show in San Luis Obispo on 10/12. Check out Coffee and Cars in Irvine, I think every last sunday of the month? Starts early also.
4 weeks in Cali you should see it all ! Heres a few to consider. http://www.bakersfieldspeedway.com/ http://www.motosolvang.com/ http://www.automobiledrivingmuseum.org/ http://www.buckowens.com/index2.html http://www.automuseum.org/ http://www.kernraceway.com/
Jimmy's Old Car Picnic in the Park in San Francisco on Sat Oct 19. Fun event. Take a ride up to Vern Tardel's Flathead Ranch above Santa Rosa. Blackhawk Museum in Danville, Roy Brizo's in South City.
Visit Beach Burgers on Beach Blvd. Oct 20 is the El Mirage meet. While you are here you NEED to visit El Mirage for a race meeting.
we visited el mirage in October 2011, it was a great experience, we got to see scandinavian street rods (Swedish)erik hanson ad his team set a new record in his drop tank racer. this year's el mirage and pomona swaap meet on the same day, so we will visit pomona
There's usually not a lot of car stuff going on in Palm Springs (you're too early for the McCormick auction), although there's a car show benefiting the local animal shelter on October 25th at the Doral. The Palm Springs Air Museum is worth a look, and if you decide to go up to Joshua Tree, you can go see a drive-in movie at Smith's Ranch in 29 Palms. Happy motoring!
Since you are going through Paso Robles you might stop by Estrella War Birds Museum. They also have some vintage race cars.

Jan and Lars There are a couple of us coming over from the UK to go to Bakersfield Hot Rod Reunion. Keep an eye out for us at the track, we'll be wearing Beaters club tshirts and will be with some of the Road Devils near the end of the stands closest to the end of the 1/4 mile. Come over and say hello, more than happy to buy you guys a beer. We're staying at the Best Western in town. Enjoy your trip, Nifty (Nathan)
