after having a 235 six in one 50 chevy and a 350 v-8 in one the 6 has the best sound but i ;like the 350 for all others
In my 1952 five-window Chevy, I ran a rebuilt full-pressure 235 with a mild cam from Patrick's (don't know if they still sell it, didn't see it in the new catalog), Fenton cast-iron headers with dual exhausts, three singles on a Nicson intake, factory 4-speed with about a 2.75 rear (don't remember exactly), Mallory ignition. Started right up, ran beautifully, shifted smoothly, felt like overdrive. I would run about 75 all day, still had passing power. Never should have gotten rid of that truck, miss it badly.
Rebuild, or buy one running there are not enough out there in cars. Too many get taken out and scrapped.
Keep the Six! my 53 Bel air has the original 235, bored 40 over, custom Venolia dome pistons, Custom ground comp cam, Fully balanced, late model style ring pack, Stainless race style valves, mild porting, Chromoly valve retainers, isky springs, ARP head bolts, dual fenton intake, header, side cover, valve cover,
Ive got a 235 in my 53. Fenton intake ,Howards cam , cast iorn headers with dual cherry bombs. On cruise night pulling thru looking for the right place to park i drop that powerglide in low and give her a little snort and you get some attention. When i park i leave the hood shut, being a mild custom you want to show off the over all apperance of the car , you will get the immediate lookers, but i come back around on open the hood, they all come back around especially the old guys and stand and talk and look and talk about the good old days of their hot rod youth, then they talk how great inlines sound, so i have to fire it up and watch em smile..it happens every time.. 8 is for SHOW but 6 is for GO!!!!!!
as an old guy ,i would not waste my time putting in a v8 ,not even the GREAT sbc, unless i was doing lots of interstate driving in hilly country, those sixes can be pretty sweet---55 on up easy swap 54 back not so much...
As a guy who's run an inline for years, get a sbc. I don't give a damn about all the belly button comments, a well dressed sbc looks as good as a 235. All the "cool" in the world ain't gonna change slow and underpowered. This is supposed to be hot rodding. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
PULL THE SHIMS ON THE MAINS AND GO AGAIN save them so it can be rebuilt later or the crank will lock up that's enough to fix it to keep running I did it in 1963
