Can anyone tell me how to tell if your brake booster is going out or if your front lines are old and swelling up on the inside? The brake booster does not look that old to be having problems.

What exactly is going on with your brakes? Describe the problem in more detail...

After driving a few miles the front brakes start to lock up, especially if I have to stop several times

  4. what type of master cyl. and brake system do you have ? disc/ drum or drum /drum
could be many different things how old is old? i dont think the swelling of lines would have anything to do with them locking

  5. Oh yeah,,old rubber brake lines can collapse and cause this kind of problem. HRP

  6. Is this master cylinder and booster under the floor or on firewall. I have the same problem, mine is under the floor and I think the exhaust might be running to close to
mc/booster and heating the fluid and expanding.

  7. By the way, mine are 4 wheel disc

If the rod between the brake pedal and the master is adjusted too long the master will not release all the way. After driving a ways the brakes will start to drag and lockup.

DISK IN THE FRONT AND DRUM IN THE BACK AND BOOSTER IS MOUNTED ON THE FIREWALL. Sorry caps. We looked at the rod between pedal and booster and that's not the issue. Its a Mustang two brake setup.

had the same problem on 2 cars the frist one the rod in the front of the boster was adjusted 2 far out .
shim the the booster about 1/8" from the mounting point and see it it helps the second one the booster was not releasing

  11. After you get the condition and the front brakes start to drag jack the car up and open one of the front bleeders. If only the brake on the side that you opened the bleeder frees up its most likely a swollen line. If both front brakes free up then its something in the master of booster holding pressure
