My car is now ready to go body shop to get painted and some other things done. Best thing I did before doing that was to hire Dan Palatnik (palat on the H.A.M.B.) to do a rendering of it.

I had lots of ideas as far as color, wheel covers, trim, etc... Glad I didn't just send it to body shop with those ideas and get back a car I wasn't happy with. Knew I either wanted red, red (metallic) and white or just black. Also thought I wanted Caddy sombrero wheel covers or '57 Caddy wheel covers. I have '53 Packard trim for wheel well and wanted to see how that would look prior to sending it away.

Well after looking at options, I did not like the red/white combo at all. I liked black better than red. I preferred the '57 wheel covers over the sombreros: I would not have guessed that. I also liked the trim and had an idea to have the '54 Pontiac "shark fin" on the belt line too. I thought it may clash with Packard trim. Asked Dan to try that out, not expecting to like it. But I really like it together.

Dan was amazing to work with. He was fast, and courteous. He also knows a lot about these cars; including the actual name for the "shark fin" (fake beltline dip) and why they had them. When I first emailed him it was weekend and I sent some specs. He kept responding even though he wanted to be done for weekend. So I quit responding to him over weekend so he wouldn't do any more.

Now I hate to give it up to body guy b/c the weather is still nice; but I'm jacked to get it back like the rendering for next spring.

In any event, if you aren't exactly sure what you want to do with your car or want to see different options before sending to body shop, I suggest hiring Dan. Price is great also. I was surprised. Attached photos are some of process along the way:

That's the winner winner chicken dinner. #6 is what I'm going with.

  4. Is there a difference in 5&6 other than the back ground and windows?
I like 6 the best too.
Also looks like a dark grey charcoal vs black

Just a different position. Same car.

It will be black. I thought renderings a little charcoal as well. But I think done to offset from shadows and tires? I didn't say anything or even ask the question.

Palat! I remember seeing that name on a 3d site. That guy is quite the skilled 3d artist!

Dumping the skirts and adding the full length trim made a big difference, I like the black or red, single color. Cant wait to see this one back from paint

  10. The renderings are fantastic and I think I'll contact him myself for a few projects.

But the car will look different in that gunmetal-charcoal vs black I think.
The charcoal and red background really pop, and since there's no difference in the car, its those two together that everyone seems to favor including myself.

31 Vicky, I agree. The more I look at that gunmetal gray color, the more I like it. I won't actually know the color until it Is time to actually select it.

I like the Pontiac stainless on the side too. Looks good.

Are you redoing the interior with the T-bird seats as well?

I want to do the rear with the T-bird seats. I just need to find one of those now.
