First off I bought it subframed so don't hate me for that. It needed new brakes on the front so I got the part number off the spindal witch came back as an 87 Monte Carlo. I ordered up new brake rotors calipers lines ect.. I cleaned and repacked the bearings today installed the new rotor and it fits but the spindal is to short to get the castle nut on enough to get the cotter pin through. The old brake rotors are cast with the numbers 459763 the new ones look exactly the same but the area where the outer bearing race is is about 1/2 or so longer. Can I just get a different outer bearing or am I stuck trying to exchange these rotors that I already put dust shields and greased up bearings in with no receipt. And if return is the only option what year make g body will fit this spindal?
no one is going to accept a return on parts you've greased up and installed, especially without a receipt
It's only held in by the bearings I can degrease it and it will look like I never installed it but I was hoping maybe I could just get a different bearing or nut and use them they seem to be on there right everything else lines up except outer bearing. The spindal has 459756 cast into it. Anyone know if these are indeed 87 Monte Carlo spindals? If they are advanced auto is going to take back the rotors no matter if I got grease on them or not it took them 3 weeks to get them shipped to me if they sent the wrong ones there going to get an ear full. New rotors have vh141233 on the box
Are you sure that your bearing races are seated properly? I really doubt that there are different bearings that will fix your problem.
I don't know part numbers, but is always possible that you got the wrong parts in the box, happens all the time. BTW the word is spelled "spindle".
Yea the races are fine there's a definite difference between the two rotors but the spindles from what I can find online fit 78-88 monte Carlos wonder if they sent me Camaro rotors or something I can't figure out why else they would be different but really close to fitting.
maybe this helps, need more info though. or pics 69-72 gm mid size(from speedway website) 73-77 gm rotor midsize
I just talked to advance they cant find any of the gm part numbers so i had them order me a set for a 1980 which came up a differant part number than an 87 should be here tomorrow they didnt list the dimensions on them so i wont know untill tomorrow if they will fit. i dont know why gm would use the same part number from 78-87 if they changed the length of the spindal thats why i thought i might just be able to switch the outer bearing to a newer year and fix it idk?
Back to square one i was able to trade the rotors in but they wouldent do a dirrect exchange since i used a coupon online so i just got a set of 87 bearings instead and they did not help at all so i dont know what front end is under this car its definatly a gm looks like a g body or s10 but the spindals are suposed to be the same for all years and mine are to short anybody have an old parts number catalog or something noone i have talked to can figure out what the rotor is from
Think i got this figured out 1978 montecarlo and grand prix are one year only spindals that are 5/8 inch shorter than the rest of the 79-88 g body cars although they use tge same exact part numbers on the spindal from 78-88 and even the s10s use the same spindals for some reason they didnt change the part number on the spindals even tho the outter bearing area is smaller and the spindals are shorter for the 1978s rotors i had to order in so ill figure out wensday if it will work or not
As a side note, 79/81 will have SAE thread studs, 82+ will have metric. The 78s will be SAE also. Also, casting/forging numbers are just that...a raw materials number. Can be machined differently, just like engine blocks. Quite possible that the spindles were all machined from the same forging pattern.
Just got the 78 rotors in everything fit like it was made for it probally because they were. wish i had known the year of the subframe from the start would of made things alot easier.
