I'm working to get the door posts set and the brackets together for the top wood on my 30 coupe. Today I finished the door posts and turned my attention to the brackets.

When I brought this thing home, I cut the door header bracket tabs so that I could remove the cowl post screws a little easier. I put them back together after reviewing as many photos as I could find (none of which really showed the cowl to bracket mount, and an aftermarket photo of the bracket itself (so that I could get the tab orientation correct.

    the problem:
    1) I'm still not sure if I have these ***embled correctly, I believe the rounded edge goes outward, and the channel downward.

    2) I have three holes on cowl post. If I use the two lower holes, which line up with the bracket tab, I have a significant rake along the bracket from the A pillar to the B pillar. If I were to reverse the bracket tab, and use the upper two holes, then I still have a slight rake (see photos).

I used the stock mounting holes for the B pillar, so I'm pretty sure the height is correct there...

So, what the hell? Should the bracket be completely level or have slight positive rise from front to rear? And what the heck is the third hole for?

Apologizes for the long winded explanation, any help or photos would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks much,

    -Chris

Photo 3 of 6 is correct. A level is like ***s on a male hog, useless. Better to fit the parts together.

Thanks, that helps. Whats the top threaded hole for, the header?

After I uploaded the photos I noticed that the chair the background looked out of level relative to the subrail. The 32 frame wasn't level under the body.
With the frame raised to level the subrails at the door, and the header bracket installed on the lower set, its seems very close to level.

I hung the door and got it to latch, so I guess it must be pretty close.

Hopefully this might help. I stole this image off the web when I was figuring out how to put mine together. I also mig-welded the pieces here to make it a bit more secure instead of just screws and wood holding the corner together.
