I was home with my 7 year old daughter yesterday; we followed a lead about an old car in a garage which led me to an old building that looked like it was once something commercial. My hopes where high, while this was in the middle of town, it had the right look. The sliding door reluctantly gave way and let us look in. There sat a unmolested Henry J. The grandfather purchased it new, the car has a 1955 isdued ***le stamped by the bank. Im guessing the ***le was issued when the loan was paid off. The son decided to work on the car 6 years ago and got the engine to run but it needed a fuel pump, a pump rebuild kit was ordered but the son p***ed away before it could be fixed. The original owner p***ed a few months later. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Dang man, great find, don't leave us hanging? Inquiring minds want to know more..... I think that may be the first all original J that I've seen.
I know it is the first stock one I've seen. A deposit was left and I'm going back on Thursday with a trailer. I'll have better pictures then. The car is in pretty decent overall shape however the rocker panels are nearly non exsistant. I don't understand how the rockers can be so bad yet rest of the car, frame, and trunk look ok. The floor next to the rockers is bad a few inches in but the remainder looks good too. It appears there are a pair of new replacement rocker panels in the rear floorbopard. As for my intentions, I need to concentrate on my Chrysler and don't need another project. This car will end up getting cleaned and put in the cl***ifieds
Nice project. What is the lettering on the flathead ? SUPERSONIC and what else. Is that original ? Sure looks like that should be out in the open for everyone to see.
It will be out in the open this coming Thursday afternoon. The flathead is an orginal flathead six but not the original to the car. along with the old ***le is a state do***ent showing the original engine being replaced with the engine that is in the car. Pretty neat, I didn't know the state do***ented engine changes, especially when the body number was used for the vehicle number.
I didn't know that either, (esp in Ill.) but the CA DMV raised cain with my pal and me about tickets we got in our A-V8s: A Santa Clara cop gave us both citations for not changing the registration cards where it said: CYLS 4 This was in 1958, believe it or not. Big Brother was raising his head...
Nice ramps HRP Maybe HRP could invest in a tape measure . Those ramps look like something Joie Chitwood would have used .
CJ's did not have the Super Hurricane 226 ci six cylinder....wagons, sedan deliveries, pickups and some FC's had them... Love the Henry J!
Thanks for the story and those photos. I remember Washington, Illinois well. Went to several car shows down town. Last one was with the 1955 Chevy wagon in early 1990's. Rained hard and ours was the only vehicle there! And cruise ins at places like "Harolds Hamburgers Diner????
Nice find!! It's cool you get your daughter interested. When I went to look at my 29' I took my two oldest with me, 6/3. They were very excited to be involved.
