Can anybody identify this tacking strip and better still give it's correct name and source of supply. I am about to fit a new interior to a 1933 Plymouth PD Rumble Seat, somebody completely stripped the inside and then lost interest. The strip would appear to be aluminium with an insert. Thanks for looking.

Thanks HRP, sent them an email yesterday, had a reply today saying that is not a line they keep. The photo was sent to me by a contact that had his retrimmed by Kiami's Upholstery Shop, in Piqua Ohio but he doesn't have a website or give an email address, I may have to write to him.

  3. In the 60s, auto-makers used that type of tack strip to secure convertible tops to car bodies. You tacked or stapled the top to the strip, then bolted the strip to the body. In 27 years of trimming cars I have never seen it offered for sale. Ive always used plywood.

Ive been at it for almost 50 years and never seen it new,. You could measure te width and depth and have a c channel folded, then cut wood to fit and peen the edges over. I just replaced all the staple strip in a set for a 68 olds vert. using oak. Did as I suggested except used the old metal. Jack

Have Just had a reply from Mike, "the tack strip that you are pointing at I don't think it belongs in car pictured,i cant remember that type showing up until about early 1960's, having said all that the bottom line is all you need is a tack strip! i would get a piece of metal stock say one inch by say 60 thousands or so the length desired and add four or so strips of waterproof panel board {glue to the metal} i like aircraft aluminum because of strength . The panel board strips which are the same board you would make door panels with. This will give you a quarter inch of stuff to staple to.this will be a laminate so bend the metal first then apply board . this will make as strong a tack strip as can be had. Good luck!" So I think that's all I will get unless someone in the future posts something positive here. Thanks for all your input, so much for trying to cut corners. Mike did say he remembered working on the car mentioned, and also if I got stuck he would be willing to assist by email, can't say more than that, a true gent.
