OK, one last "what's it worth" question for you to cover all my bases.

'66 Ford F100. Not running, needs work but I drove the truck before he took the gears off - Mileage Maker 6, 3 on the tree. Some dents - nothing too major. Needs rear bumper.

He wants 1700. I have the idea of fixing it up and selling it to afford the 3100 I can't yet afford. How's 1700 for it?

Edit: Short bed & not a Custom Cabs.

You didn't say whether it was a long or a short bed. I'm ***uming it's not a Custom Cab? (not that it makes much difference, but Custom Cabs have way nicer interiors).

Out here on the west coast, that would be a fair price for a not running 6 popper equipped short bed if it had minimal body damage and no rust. For a long bed, that's about 3 times what it's worth out here.

Look out for rust. They all like to rust in the drip rails. They also like to rust at the leading edge of the hood. In areas where they salt the road, the cab floor braces will rust out, as will the bottom of the tailgate.

Updated my post - short bed, fleetside (wish it were flareside, but...).

No significant rust - it was a southern truck.

Unfortunately no, but it looks just like all the rest with the exception of a banged up door (which he has a replacement for).

Stepsides don't bring much money. If you like the truck, then maybe, to fix up and sell for profit for another rig, probably not...

My first truck was a 66 f100 long bed. Great truck, had it 9 years. I have had 4 or 5 SWB 65-66's and currently on a 64 SWB.

I like those trucks a lot. However, a stepside of either bed length don't have much of a following.

It's NOT a stepside. Did I get my flare/style side mixed up?

Flareside is a stepside, the way you wrote it I was ***uming it was a stepside and yo wished it was a SWB.

Then what the hell are you waiting for?

A short wide bed is Waaaaaay coooooler and waaaaaaay more desirable

I have a guy that builds those, about 3-4 a year, some are the crew cabs.

He does them right with dropped beams, all new parts, FE's with A/T, disc brakes etc.

The standard cabs he gets 15-18K for the crew cabs are high 20's to mid 30's.

I bought one from him 4 years ago, that was the 19th one he had done. He is into the 28th or 29th one now.

I see short bed flaresides for sale everywhere for over 10k - but I never see them sell. Leads me to believe the value in these are...I don't know what.

But mostly I'm just trying to get an idea of whether or not 1700 is a fair price for what I'll be getting considering the work that will have to be done.

If it doesn't have a major amount of rust, it is a deal.

The red 64 in the link I paid out 6500 bucks for, the blue one sold for 10500, which was waay to light.

The two tone brown one sold for 10,000.

The green one was converted to a SWB, and lowered with disc brakes. It had a 6 in it. It sold thru a dealer here to a guy in Arizona for 16,500.

The red and white one I sold for 4800, the white one sold for 2200 with a knocking 6 cyl.

Maybe with pics and prices it can give you an idea, also location differs.

What are you gonna do to it to fix it up before you sell it?

My short list (other than basic body work): correct "looking" rear bumper. PS with tilt wheel, PB with front disc brakes, maybe swap the 3 speed with a 5 speed floor **** (though I'm not sure if leaving it the traditional 3 on tree is more valuable - you'd have to say).

Polish the chrome, shoot it black, white walls. That's about it. Not too fancy - I will be using it as a truck.

Edit: And move the gas tank.

Not sure. Again, nothing too fancy. A daily driver in flat black. :)

Tough call, gotta be nice to get the money out of it.

I think Skipper is referring to the truck being neither ;)

It's nice he is letting it slide for a bit.

I think that you will have it invest a bit of money to make it as nice as it will need to be to get to the point of making a little money on it.

    Flat black......no way.

Ah, well then Skipper is right. ;)

It might not be something I can make money on. I also don't NEED it, which is why I'm trying to get a value feel. I can always say no.
