I did that too. They are 302 heads. It wont seal between the head and the intake.

THAT, is a very nice setup you have there; clean and uncluttered, and I'll bet it hauls! Now, I'm primarily, a "Chevy guy", but I also like all the different brands. The OP has done the right thing I think, to stay with a SBF that is; it would have been better with a BBF however, and a BBC just would't have been the "right thing to do", not for the car, or the engine. That's not a "brand based" opinion, it's just my opinion. Butch/56sedandelivery.

I had the same problem with a used set of HP heads.. they were angle milled so the back and front of the intake and the side that mounts to the head had to be machined to match. As stated before throw away the end gaskets and use a high temp silicone for a very good seal.. I hope this helps.. Back to the BBC instal if by chance you have a problem with the drag link just cut in apart and drop the center its a old trick used when instaling cad engines in 49 thru 53 fords. If you have any fab skills this should be a easy swap.

with any of the ford engines I have worked on, end seals are not used. 1/4 bead of silicone is required on the ends tho.

fe's are the worst. Need to test fit the intake with gaskets and go around to check making sure there are no weird gaps or areas that are too tight.
I can't remember on 302's but with Fe's there is a locating dowel on the front rail that isn't used in aftermarket intakes. You need to either remove it or grind it off.

butch/56 sedan, thanks for the compliment. I like uncluttered, so no power steering, no power brakes. Just a big engine :) and yes, a 429/c6/3000stall with 4.30 rear gears and 25.5 inch tall tires does indeed pull pretty hard.

Just so everyone knows I threw away the cork gaskets and used a fat beed of silicone and let it cure for 3 days. Same as a chevy. It leaks between the head. It just has to be machined. My new issue is. On my new sbf I picked up. The casting comes back as a 289 it has the 3 bolt holes in the harmonic balancer. It has 302 heads. But heres the kicker. When I pulled the torq converter of the motor. It says 1980 ford ltd c4 on the fly wheel. Wouldn't that be a 50 ounce fly wheel???? Shouldn't it be a 28 ounce fly wheel???? Im only 26 years old still ALOT to learn. But im trying. These fords are giving me a run for my money.....
