Cool story. Can't imagine there are many blogs about their grandpa's garbage buisness.

  3. I like old commercial lettering on trucks. Freehand lettering like the old sign painters used to do is almost a lost art. I lettered my truck as a shop truck for the Ford dealer that was in my hometown 1928-1956.

My mentor had one of the old Hemmings Motor News delivery trucks. It was a 39 International half ton. In the right light you could still make out the lettering on the back panel.

My 25 T touring car had faint lettering on the door that said POLICE but I highly doubt it was an actual police car. Maybe it was painted on later as a joke.

I attempted researching the flower shop on the side of my old chevy delivery ... checked Bedford Iowa phone book and checked Google....no flower shop showing.

  9. I was living in Baltimore in '92 when I painted and lettered my truck as a shop truck for Drake Motor Co., Ford dealer in Rockmart GA. I called my father, told him how I was going to letter the truck, and that I wished I could find out the actual phone number from back then. Daddy said, "I'll find out for you. Miss Margaret Johnson was the phone operator in Rockmart back then. She's in the nursing home but her mind is still good." She was about 98 or 99 at the time and lived to be 101. She remembered the number without hesitation. Phone 13.
