Well since you asked. I perfer the chrome caps. They will look good with the beauty rings. A couple of pin stripes on the hoops will really make them pop. Those spokes definitely are a kool piece though.

    this looks nice for wheels

  4. My grandparents had a '48 four door that was grey. My grandad pulled out in front of someone and got T-boned, with bumps and bruises to him, but bad damage to the doors and B-post on one side, so restoration of that one was off the table. Your wood-graining is so spot on, it makes my jaw drop. Beautiful work and a great eye for the esthetics of the era.

i like that 2racer, buy why I had such a hard time finding 16 inch beauty rings at cl***ic car swapmeet astounds me. I came home without any. I thought they were general, some were deep, some were 16.5, some were too thin, some were late 50s, some were buick or Pontiac, most were too beat up and a lot weren't complete sets. and even on ebay theyre all different I have no clue which ones I need to get.

it was a nice day, hung out with vendors I know and friends and guys I haven't seen in a few years. felt like I needed blinders as I was walking through the rows wanting something out of a lot of vendor spots. what I really wanted and will still get is the venetian blinds, by the time I walked the whole swapmeet looking for the thing I needed and went back he was gone but I got his card the blinds look good and has them for a great price I really want blinds for the 48 and he has a set just for it, going to try to pick up the set this week. the blinds are a nice almond white and look nice but thinking I might woodgrain them ;) he makes a lot of blinds for different years and cars here is his card

I was good, I had a lot of self control I didn't spend alot on little things saved my money for bigger things I need like the venetian blinds and the paint supplies I need to paint my 65 but trust me it wasn't easy, I kept picking up and putting down the same things while I fought the need to have to buy. saved money only got these 4 small things. curb feelers

That wood grain would scare the hell out of me and I've painted lots of things. You did a really great job. Some day I want to do a number on my grandfather's 48... but it's a way rustier than what you started with. Some day...

thanks orange, whtbaron, and Carolina man. yea the woodgrain came out better than I was expecting due to that it was my first time. small mistakes I made were covered up by the toner so it worked out fine. wish it just didn't take such a long process, id bust more pieces out quicker to sell or do on my other parts. first the sanding and metal prep, primer and wait for it to dry. sand the primer and spray base coat and wait for it to dry. roll the woodgrain print and wait for it to dry. rub the toner in and wait for it to dry. spray the clear coat and wait a while for it to dry. wetsand the whole thing. buff with wool pad and compound. buff with cotton pad and compound. buff with foam pad and glaze. then wax 2 weeks later. to me it wasn't the labor but the wait between everything, a day or two to dry. but the finished product is awesome and worth the wait =)

Are you still going to do a tech instruction thread on wood grainning?

I'm sure lots of us would appreciate it.

yea upspirate, sorry I haven't I just got caught up in the moment seeing it all come together. its funny you bring it up, im actually going to woodgrain some snack trays and the comp*** I just bought. theyre smalls but still same process and work. I will be sure to do a tech instruction on it since theyre small and will be more bench work than when I did the outside of the car or the steering column so ill have more ease in videotaping. there will be more video than pictures but even though they are smalls it is the same process no matter what size. and the snack trays are about a square foot so youll see how I blend two different rolls. might have time to start the videos today, this just happened

this might be a reason why I had vac*** issues. 3 different hair line cracks
    [IMG]
incase you cant see them, this is what happened when I pulled it just alittle bit to see if its flexing open a bit

would jb weld fix this or get a new one? where do I get a new one?

Thank You gallogiro. If it's cast iron you can have it welded back together by someone who does that type of welding.

I seem to make it out there about once a decade and I'm due.

No plans any time in the near future but that can change with a moment's notice.

If it happens I'll make time to come out and see you. I really want to look up close at the Fleetmaster.

Carolina man its some kind of composite like really really hard cardboard or pressed wood. hoping its not asbestos but im starting to think it is and feels like it like a brake shoe, especially because of what its supposed to do, insulate the carburetor from the heat. well its drying with jb weld so ill see how that goes. theres no pressure on it so its not like its going to bust open again from the vacuum pressure so it should be fine.

and jefe yea come down sometime, theres shows all year like I said.

upspirate it might just happen sooner than you think the tech article on the woodgrain. maybe because I done it already and know what to do, but did a lot of work in the last 4 hours

4 hours ago, grimy and nasty

while im at it, and so glad I remembered, these. the reason I haven't redone them and put them on my doors is because I was lazy to do the whole woodgrain process on those two little pieces. the rest is covered in vinyl and fabric, this part is exposed metal

normally would have taken me 2 days but I know the process good now and breezed right through I knew how already

so now flash forward to this stage. woodgrain print tomorrow morning, if its hot enough ill let sit and dry in the sun and apply toner by the night, let dry overnight and tomorrow afternoon spray the clear coat. of course upspirate, from this point on I will videotape not pictures so you can see the whole process =)

    Thanks for the process.

I didn't realize you had to dip the parts in the floating print.
I thought I'd seen a process where you paint a base, then use a tool with a darker or lighter color to "grain" it then clear.

well this morning I tried to put the toner on the woodgrain, started with the comp***. should have waited the 24 hours It wiped the woodgrain right off. glad I started with something small but I redid it and NOW going to wait the 24 hours.

had a friend pick me up to check out a car, a 427 66 impala for sale for 5500. I liked what I saw, but then again I like all cars and get excited easy so I don't really have a poker face so I wasn't that much help with the whole lets pretend were not interested deal

but the guy had this in his garage, you can tell he was a real builder

no my friend was the one looking but took me because I know these cars bumper to bumper. I loved what I saw, but I guess him for what they were asking it had to be more complete and put together. I do all the work myself I love building so I didn't see it that way but he doesn't so he might p*** on it. I don't see cars for what they are but for what they could be, see the gl*** half full. but it did need work and hes barely wrapping up a 66 convertible project so I can see why he wouldn't want to start fresh again
