Hey folks, hopefully I'm posting this in the right forum, if not I apologize. I just picked up a few old M*** license plates from a guy at work who s****s. He just acquired a few hundred plates from all over the states and was going to s**** them, but luckily I saved a few of the oldest ones from his pile. I'm just curious if these plates are worth anything? Thanks in advance, Craig.
M*** is a YOM state so if these plates are "clear", that is not in use, someone will want them..........
Someone with a 37 who lives in M*** will probably be hounding you for the matched 37 plates. Not sure on the ones that are single unless the state lets guys run singles. They still should be worth a few bucks to guys who have those year models who want them for wall decoration in the garage though.
Over the years M*** has gone back and forth between issuing/requiring 2 plates or 1 as well as how long they are good for. I have no idea what applied to what years, never kept track. FWIW, over the years I've also had the RMV inspectors, local, and State police give me their different takes on the same regulations..... Ed
M*** plate trivia. Somewhere around 1928 M*** put a codfish at bottom center, and M*** at one lower corner. The fishing season went bad that year for commercial ocean fishermen, and they noticed that the "fish" on the plate was swimming away from "M***". So the next year the fish was turned around to have the fish swimming to the "M***"
Careful of those YOM plates. The M*** DOT is turning down street rods now with YOM plates. The inspection stations will be on the lookout for them. Once you're pegged with them, they'll put you thru a world of grief. You don't want to go there!
.......Fascinating story and I have one of those 1928 M*** plates with the fish swimming away from M***. Friend of mine works as an equipment operator at the local landfill. Someone threw it as well as a number of other M*** plates away and he retrieved them for me.
Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it! I did some more digging and found this form for registering YOM plates. It also states that if only 1 of the 2 plates is available that you can still register a YOM plate with just one, pending its counter part isn't already in the RMV database. http://www.m***rmv.com/rmv/forms/20132.pdf
