Archeological Find is it worth digging up?

DIG...better to dig and find apile o' rust than to not and wonder what might be there...

 

"what'cha doing?"

My grandpa helped a guy dig an old crown imperial out of a ditch. Poor car was burried up to the door handles. They got it dug out up to the wheels. Then Grandpa sorta broke his old International wrecker (50's model I think) into two very large pieces (frame broke after the cab) trying to pull the car out.

Even though it ended sorta sour it's a neat story to tell. Lucky for G'pa the guy he was helping's son was a welder!

 

So it'll be running in a few weeks right???

 

Keep digging! You never know what else might be down there, or around the area! Most of my cars I actually dug up myself in the past few years (30 Model A Fordor, 3 23-25 Chevy trucks, 25 Chevy sedan, and my Whippet)...sometimes it's surprising how much is left! The Model A is definitely the best one, though, the ground was like a preservative! Good luck, I'd help, but I'm in Nebraska...

 

Man, I think you should dig with the idea of writing a story and taking pics. Send it to OSR or one of the other mags. Take 35mm pics for the mags though. What if there is a mafia dude buried with the car? I know not likely, but exciting. He could ride shotgun when the car is back on the road.

My $0.02: Even if it's just a tudor body with no cowl, it's not hard to find the rest of one. Heck I bought a '30 A cowl at a show once for $20. It wasn't even that rotty, just bare. So you should be able to do something with it. If not, just throw it on eBay, put "Rat Rod" in the ***le, and put a silly price on it. Let one of the OSR types buy it and pay you for the time you spent on it.

 

I live near Ellsworth WI if it matters. Well I was gonna dig it up some more and had started on it and not gotten too far when my dad showed up and told me that it was a year since he had a severe heart attack and nearly died so I had to take him out to celebrate the fact that he was still alive. which was okay anyway since I broke my shovel just a little while earlier trying to dig out the back end some more. I hit a piece of angle iron that I thought was a root at first so I went to pull it out with the shovel and SNAP! Oh well.

She needs to be good hearted and able to accept having a "sculpture" or two on the lawn that might eventually be running cars.

This is so much fun. It's like digging in the cereal box to see what your prize is Put hot Rod Pat to work too. He's good with a shovel.

UPDATE *sigh* cars no good. Apparently whoever put it down there cut off the front off it. It would seem that its only a twisted back of a body and a couple of rear doors (which I tore off) and window cranks and stuff. Well it was fun anyway and now I've got bigger fish to fry.

The good new is I gotta buddy who might want this stuff.

And I'll just make other better finds

I forgot to mention the other side was pretty much cut like the first side I dug up. I'll pull it up tommorrow I was gonna tonight but my buddy (the thinner fellow in the picture) told me about another car he knew about so we had to check that out.

 

He'll get that sum***** out of the ground only to find out it's a Studebaker or someother oddball. That would be my luck if it was me.

 

Someone might have made a pickup out of the car during the war...

Gotta give you an "A" for effort though.
Sure was a load of digging and you stuck to it till you had your answer.
With that kind of tenacity your sure to find something eventually!

How'd I miss this post? Looks like you and Hot Rod Pat had some fun that day. Too bad there wasn't more there for you.....

 

yeah but it was a ****load of fun and now I'm hooked on finding stuff. SO now I want to build a hot rod (right now I'm looking for a roadster body) that is almost completely made from parts I find, oh this should be fun.
