Has anyone found a nice fuel pressure gauge that only reads to about 5-8 psi? Us flathead guys run about 2-3 psi, and all I've found is 15 psi guages.

  2. Bought these from the local speed shop.

Also available from Earls . . . and probably Summit as well.

I had to settle for a Moon 1 1/2" guage (1-15 psi). Since thought maybe an industral type guage with a smaller range might be found.

well, jegs has a wide array.... any where from 16.99 to around 200:eek:

moon probably has the best looking ones even though they are probably from the same company.....they just put their eyes on them.....

i really don't want my pressure gauge to have jegs written on it......JEGS stickers do ad HP, though, right?

Snyders sells a 0-10 pound guage for Model A oil pressure.

    http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/

Search for Oil Pressure Guage Under there Model A parts.

A word of caution on those liquid filled ones. As they heat up the liquid expands and makes the gage read erroneously LOW. If you're gonna run one set the pressure COLD and then IGNORE them. Or you could be like me at the dragstrip wondering why my fuel pressure was going away and then go and adjust it until you eventually blow the needles off the seats!!!!! POS's if you ask me.

  11. One further thing to add; run a fuel pressure isolater if the gauge is inside the cockpit.

You don't want gasoline at the gauge.
If a leak develops, instant fire hazard.

You can buy small isolaters as shown on the right side of my pic above.
It's the piece with the 90 degree tubing/fitting.

Autometer also makes an isolater, but I don't know if it's available by itself.

Older SW gauges in 10 lb are fairly common--practically everything modern seems to be 15, which leaves you squinting at a needle barely off its seat...
On the safety issue, my opinion is that a fuel pressure gauge is more a tool than a useful dash part; I see no need for one as a permanent fitting, just as a device to see if a new fuel pump is right or not. I'd just get things sorted, plug that hole, and keep the gauge handy in case you change fuel pumps or something in the future.

My older Stewart Warner catalog shows a 1-10psi fuel pressure gauge in the Deluxe Mechanical (2 1/16 Dia) style with a part number of 82319 (old number 360-HY-1). That's the classic chrome bezel/black face/white pointer hot rod style. Check with your local NAPA or Speedway Motors for availability.

It is a tool, Bruce, but depending on the car and reason for use, it is sometimes nice to have for an instant check. In my case, I can glance at mine mounted on the fuel log as I pull to the line, and stage, to make sure I haven't lost any pressure. I would never mount one in the dash.

  14. Granted, it is a valuable trouble shooting device, but I like having one on board.
    Along with a vacuum gauge.

If . . . the engine starts acting up you can do a little diagnosing while you're driving.

    You can see trends developing.
I watched an electric fuel pump start going south and once home, a swap to a new one cured the upcoming problem.

Anthing that prevents one of those roadside chats with the engine is good in my book....
