I have been researching more information on my all steel 41 Willys and recently came across this website since it had some pics and a copy of an article on the car from 1965. The car was raced by Elverne Pfeifer from Wisc. and was voted Winner of Best Engineered Car title at the NHRA Nationals in 1965. It was later purchased by Dave Krasnonski who drove the car along with my father in his 32 Studebaker Rockne to many shows and both appeared in several magazines. Dave later sold the car and lost track of it for about 20 years. He found it again and purchased the car and held onto it for another 11 or so years. I was able to purchase the car from Dave, my father's best friend, about 4 years ago. Here's the question - does anyone have any further information or pictures of this car? Here is the link that I found on this site already. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s....php?p=4758375 I am getting ready to build the car again and would like to bring it back as close to the way it looked back then as I can. Any information or pics would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not going to be much help on this, but I do remember reading about Al Pfeifer's willys when I was researching info on a Anglia! The Anglia was the Lutz & Lundberg Anglia that won the Nationals. The reason Pfeifers name came up was he was who they defeated to win the A/G tophy!! It did say that Pfeifer didn't go home empty handed, as he won the Best Engineered trophy. If I remember correctly, the nationals information I had been reading was from 1964, not 1965....and it also had Pfeifers Willys listed as being a '42. I have been trying to remember just where or whom I got the nationals info from, so I could double check it. Like I said...probably not much help. Good luck, and please post some pics.
I have a magazine that has a picture of the 41. It stuck out in my mind because it was Cadillac powered, injected I think. I'll look this weekend and see if I can find what book it was in.
i FIRST SAW THAT CAR AT THE uNION gROVE DRAGSTRIP IN 1960. wENT INTO THE PITS AND HAWKED IT OUT, CAUSE IT HAD THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BODY AND PAINT WORK AT THAT MEET. iF i REMEMBER CORRECTLY IT WAS A REAL DARK BLUE, ALMOST LOOKED BLACK. Stimac
The link in my original post reflects pictures of the 41 Willys as it appeared in 1965 when it won Best Engineered at the NHRA Nationals. There is also an article that gives more information on the car. It was a dark blue color (Barcelona Blue). It also appeared in Feb. 1974 (pg. 74 of Rod & Custom magazine) when it was owned by Dave Krasnonski. Picture was taken in Gatlinburg, TN. Then again in Hot Rod Nov. 1974 (pg. 70) at the Street Rod Nationals in MN. Also Hot Rod Yearbook No. 14 1974. And in Street Rodder Dec. 1975 pg. 44. The way the car appeared in 1974-1975 in these magazines is the exact same way as it appears today. It still has the same paint as then. We are getting ready to start on it again and would like to bring it back to as close to when Pfeifer owned and raced the car. I will try to attach pictures of the Willys as it looks today. I will also try to post some pictures of my 32 Rockne which was recently completed after 13 years of working on it since my father passed away. Any info. or pictures on the Willys would be great. Thanks, Kevin 937-430-0242
Kevin, Those are both sweet!! I really think the willys will be much nicer restored to the way it was when it was Pfeifers. Good luck...and keep us posted.
