I have a 65 with a 250 found a 292 with a cast-iron 4-barrel intake and split cast exhaust. Are these rare, worth using or would you go with an offy or something like that and split headers? I want to continue to run a 6cyl but want to have one with a bit more hp. Any information would be helpful. Thanks
Got pics? Gm did make an experimental quadrajet manifold for the 250-292 but never released it. It sounds like maybe a modified Pontiac OHC manifold.
The mid-60's Pontiac 6 was offered with both a 2bbl. and a 4bbl. Quadrajet intake and carb. I'd make sure its not a Pontiac engine.
Like Jethro said, an intake from a Pontiac OHC 6 could be modified and used on a 230/250/292 Chevy head. That nice looking split exhaust manifold, however, isn't even close. The Pontiacs had a cast aluminum finned cover on top.
I'm on travel but will try to post some pics when I get back. It's a good friends brother both of which are car guys his brother pulled and dropped a SBC in for a customer and that's how he ended up with the motor. Other than that I don't have a lot of info. I'm guessing block/casting numbers will reveal the make correct? Thanks again. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
The pontiacs i believe have the same fitment for exhaust. The intake was a 6 port, however. So if you pull that four barrel manifold and its split into two ports in each of the three legs, pontiac.
So I got a call from the owner of the motor he did verify it's Pontiac sprint in intake and exhaust with an adapter. My question is are these rare, run well and or valuable. He claims he saw one of the exhausts on ebay going for 1k. I certainly can't find it and think that seems high but I don't know. Thanks for the additional input.

In some ways. Others, not so much. They are a nice, well built piece, but, they require modifying nearly any other intake manifold to work with them, and the flanges are of an odd thickness so even bolting takes a bit of work.
So If I leave the intake and exhaust he will sell the motor and trans for $400.00 and then he will get what he can for the other parts. He saw the intake on ebay that they were asking $999.00 so he thinks it's pretty valuable heck I would too since I didn't see it anywhere else. I would prefer to run stuff that I don't have to dink with just to get it up and running meaning an intake and exhaust built for that kind of motor might be the right ticket for my skills. Now I have a 250 in my truck now that just needs a valve job but it's in the truck and I wouldn't have to mod the mounts. Just looking for some guidance. He wanted to trade me a gun that is worth $750 for all of the parts and a rearend with 373's so I can get taller gearing. I'm kind of leaning to just doing the 250, send the head off to someone (not sure yet) and worse case bore the cylinders out .030 over to put 350 pistons in it. Maybe overkill. Torn so would seriously like some input. Thanks
An age old problem......there's a huge difference between asking $999.99 and GETTING $999.99, but you can't beat that through some people's skulls with a sledgehammer. I sold an identical intake/exhaust setup recently for $350.00, and that was about the limit of what the market would bear.
that engine was probably in a marine application, look at the angle of the carb mounting pad. i would do some homework on the history before i would give anyone a dime for it.
You need to pass on this stuff, that guy is just way off base on his prices. Check out the Pontiac OHC car forum, there was a 4 bbl intake for sale there for $95 bucks if that tells you what those guys value them for. Another guy had a whole engine for sale for $100 bucks, and it wasn't froze up or anything. Yeah there neat and cool looking but they don't have a lot of value to them, even for the guys that are really into them. So save your money and go direct to some of those guys if you really want one.
Absolutely and I get that and was glad I held off. I think I'll pass I'll pull the head on my 250 have the work done to it, then I don't have to worry about having it down too long the only thought was to get a little more HP out of the 292. Always a tough decision. I appreciate the input from you guys. Thanks
