Sigh...I was just looking on another Hot Rod forum for a video link I figured might be there and came across a post about "Roy", Boyd's crusty metal man. According to the post he passed away today from lung cancer! His wife passed just a little while ago and I guess he just gave up and let the cancer he was fighting take him... Damn...I thought he was a pretty cool and talented guy. Roy was "THE MAN!" Rest In Peace...
Sorry to hear this. He was a funny ol' dude. He seemed to buck the drama trend, made the show interesing sometimes. My condolances to his family.
I always wondered why or how 'ol Roy got hooked up with Boyd? Roy was funny by being serious and kind of grumpy- being hooked up with Boyd who always seemed to uptight like he "had to go" and could'nt get a bathroom brake. Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy
A very talented man, and a great character. I always enjoyed the scenes with Roy the most. A great loss.
That crabby guy was usually the highlight of the show - at least for me. You ever see the episode where he took Mike to the bar and they mooned the trains as they went past? You could tell that Roy was a good timin' old fart. Just a crab ass at work.....wonder why? LOL. Too bad. This hobby alway supports cancer fighting causes (among others), yet all of the good ones seem to get snagged by it. That sucks. "I hate cars!" -Roy ...BTW you better be right. I just had to admit I watched the show!
Hey I just went to the Discovery channel site to verify the aforementioned passing of Roy (which I could not do) but you gotta go look at Roy's comments in the "cast" section....funny as hell. Couldn't find any news about his death though. Maybe it's not true !?! Anywho. Let's hope for his sake it not true. If it is though RIP man.
RIP... I guess that Boyd shop will be "Smoke Free" now. I remember all the episodes they tried to get him to smoke outside out of the "NO Smoking" area...and he would light up while they were standing next him...hillarious. R.I.P. He worked metal good.
Man,,,they just continue to fall this year....another great loss to our hobby! He will be a hard one to replace there!
Shit! Now they GOTTA fire that black guy! Roy was the only one who wouldn't kick his ass. Damn shame I tell ya, just when equal opportunity employment was gettin' somewhere. RIP ROY!
That certainly is some bad news to hear. Who can ever forget the entire '63 Corvette hood that he made from aluminum? Very cool. My machine shop instructor told me years ago to try and stick close to the crabbiest old machinist in whatever shop you end up working in. It'll be hard 'cuz he'll always be hollering at you, but you will learn more from him than you ever thought possible. I always thought of this when I seen Roy on the show. Someday, I hope to be that old machinist screamin' at some young guy! God bless.
"AAWWW...NOOO...you don't F*#ck with ROY...ROYS my MAN" as qouted by that very funny black guy that Roy actually seemed to like...man every shop needs a goofy bastard like those two...joe
that guys was great, and he knew what he was doing! he almost reminded me of woody gilmore, kinda gruff get otta my way attatude.
how old was he? on the site it says hes in his "60's" my grandpas 90 and seems alot younger than roy did... i dont even consider 60 that old
Sad indeed. As other said, an extremely talented man of steel. Kinda a reminder that none of us are getting younger, apreciate your freinds and family each day
...........the "black guy's" name is Lee and you're right. Those two MADE the show! While Roy came off as a grouchy old hard ass, his interactions with Lee showed just how cool the 'ol dude really was. Lee was always fuckin' with Roy and he'd just roll his eyes and smile............ Journey well Roy.
