On here it goes..I have a 55 chevy 2 door with a 383 350 trans. The problem is that I crank it and it won't start right away,it will start until the end of crank I have a high output coil...is it a timing problem or what could it be? Also it will run fine but then it won't wanna start?

Sounds like you are not getting 12 volt at crank. Is this a new install?

defintely need a wire from the third terminal on the starter to the coil. Unless you got a starter with only two terminals then you gotta run a hot wire with a momentary switch.

Wait it is points or what?

I see you are from Texas where it gets very hot..So howlong does the car sit between drives?? It could be as simple as no fuel in the carb and the system needs to fill up.. With todays fuels this is a problem after the engine heat soaks. does the fuel pump put out enough pressure?? What carb and what intake. Check rubber fuel lines as the can **** air and not fuel..Some times its simple things. I hope this helps ... Bobby

I had a built 340 that would start when cold , but after driving it I would have to wait 10 minutes for it to start. I had the timing off, adjusted it and it started all of the time.

This is ***uming he is using a points type ignition. Gives a full 12v to coil when cranking and switches to resistor wire when running.

When you are cranking the coil is being powered from the number 2 ignition connector on the ignition switch and when you release the key to the run position the coil is getting power from the number 1 ignition connector on the switch through the ballast resistor. If it starts while you are cranking the engine and stops running when you release the key then that would indicate that the there is a problem with the number 1 ignition circuit. Make sure the resistor and it's wiring is good and connected correctly and also make sure that you have power to it with the ignition switch in the on position. Take a look at the attached image for the complete wiring diagram
