My master cylinder in the wagon went bad. Not original was replaced with a dual previously. Since i wasnt sure what to install i did a quick google search and found this article on hemmings. Figured it would help somebody and lists for ford gm and chrysler. http://www.hemmings.com/hmn/stories/2010/05/01/hmn_feature29.html

Hemmings has had some HAMB friendly interchange articles from time to time. I had missed that one, thanks for posting.

    I question the Ford info?
"These cylinders have a four-bolt firewall mounting flange. Early Ford single-circuit master cylinders can be upgraded using a 1-inch manual brake dual-circuit unit from these vehicles:

    • 1967-'72 Ford Custom, Galaxie, LTD
    • 1967-'70 Mustang and Cougar
    • 1967-'68 Mercury Commuter and Montclair
    • 1967-'71 Mercury Marquis and Monterey"

A "four bolt firewall mounting flange"??? I have a late 60's Mustang on my '63 Falcon, and it doesn't use a 4 bolt flange, nor did the original master.

From a member of the H.A.M.B. 1952-59 Ford Social Group here is a 3 part video which applies to 1952-59 Fords: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXfXKlj2D1I About the 4 bolts, they also support the clutch and brake pedal bracket ***embly so be sure you install all 4 bolts after the conversion. The master cylinders 1971BB427 listed come in drum/drum and drum/disc styles be sure you select the correct one for your application, also 50's Fords had manual adjusting brakes you can easily convert those to self adjusting since Ford used the same brake shoes in later 60's and 70's Fords by getting the hardware kits for the matching shoes.

I think the first sentence was referencing the specs for the Chrysler list above it (?) and shouldn't have been part of the Ford paragraph. That's what I got out of it anyway...

Yea not sure about the 4 bolt reference. I just finished installing the new master. Ordered one for a 67 mustang brand new 50 bucks or so. Like i said it was done before with a kit since it has a different bracket the master goes to. The master went right in and i have a great pedal. So thats my fact check haha

Sometimes I think they get info confused during editing. Maybe it is the 4 bolts on the firewall, instead of two bolts for the master, and two for something else. I know my Falcon master, and the Mustang master both have 2 bolts, and my Falcon doesn't have two more near the master for anything else. It is a stick also, so no clutch bracket bolts by '63 anyway.

You might want to re-read my post again so you will know what the 4 bolts are for.

I re-read your post, and I still don't have but two bolts on my particular car. There are no other bolts or bolt holes in my firewall. I think you're referring to earlier Fords, not my '63.

I was referring to the original post of the '57 Ford,I had a guy in the Ford Social group do the swap and wondered why he kept hearing a "thump" about a month later every time he pushed the clutch and brake pedals down.He felt
