Hey yall, after runnin into a few good deals at the same time, I decided to get this thing. Its a 62 Chevy panel truck. Got a early 350 in it. Has a 350th outa a ol van the owner said, and is complete. Bad news is it needs iner an outer rocker panels, some floor patch work. And some quarter work. The hood is crap. And there is a crack in the front windshield. Which sucks cause thats an expensive part lol. Its also been sittin for 8 years. And the wiring in this thing is CRAP!!! I did manage to get it runnin after about 20 mins of wiring an cleaning. It sounds good an has good oil pressure but smoked like a train lol I didn't let it run long so it may clear up. It HAS been sittin a while. But if I use that motor it will be gone through anyways. Anywho.. I am VERY seriously considering settin this truck on the chassis from my wrecked 96 tahoe 4x4. BUT I am also considering just changing suspension an slamming it. I have a 72 chevy truck chassis that I can get front and rear suspension. And a 82 chevy truck that I could use also. I have no idea the way I want to go. I have no fear of gettin that truck on the tahoe chassis. I just am a little overwelmed by all the wiring I would have to do to keep all the electronics an electronic 4wd. I dunno I am lost. I have no idea on the paint scheme I want. A cool ol shop name or somethin but I dunno... What do you think?????????

That could be a nice ride. Hard windshield to find but I am sure there are some out there, especially from a truck.

I personally would go with the late model truck suspension, will easily bolt on and you will get power disc brakes etc. Supposed to be an easy swap for 60-66 trucks.

You can then have a modern drivetrain without hacking everything up to fit a late model chassis, not to mention all the potential sheetmetal and/or wiring issues.

I prefer the stock/slammed look over the 4x4 hacked up ride you may end up with.

I saved some links on doing the late model swap into 60-66 trucks, pm me if you need more info.

What ever you decide good luck

well my tahoe was my main towing vehicle and I don't have anything anymore. Even though its 4wd its still prolly lower than that 62. I'd love to do that but I dunno. I really like this 62 though..

Spudnik, that is the same year as my C10! I am putting a '79 front clip in for the brakes, what I plan is to swap the cross member and all over, including the P/S box! :D I do believe that the '72 chassis will work just as well, check and see what the wheelbase is and rob everything from the hulk you can get. I think you can put the panel body on that frame as long as the WB is the same. You will be amazed at how these trucks are supported by the aftermarket, just like Mustangs and Camaros, really. Let's keep in touch on this and help each other out.

Have you heard from Randaddy lately?

Hey EL C yeah I think this will be an easy project. Hopefully we can help each other out. But yeah I am just gonna use the crossmember, p/s and rear outa the 72 chassis.. ANd like I said if I run into somethin with that chassis I have a complete 82 chevy truck as well. SO I have enough shit to convert to 5 lug an disks..

    Spudz,

Cool truck! I like those a lot.

From what I've heard (and keep in mind this is second hand information and should be treated as seriously as gossip) the 73-87 crossmember and front suspension will swap over directly and only require that two new holes be drilled in your '62 frame.

Swapping a crossmember would have to be easier than swapping a frame. With that much rot, you might want to pull the body off anyway!

As a schoolbus fleet mechanic in years past, my specialty was the "special or little buses" which consisted of Suburban - CarryAll's, IH Travelall's and the odd small bus or wagon.
I owned 65, 66, 71 and now an '81 Sub with the folding seats.

    Here's a link to a nice Suburban

Mine is lowered with the newer 5 lug/disk brakes on it, and I replace panels as they fall off. No 4x4, please.]

depening on how low you want to go it is a lot of work. I wanted to keep the larger tires (235 75 15r) because of the size of the wheel well opening sizes and it just keeps needing more pieces cut out. mine now sits at 5" off the ground, going a little more with tire size because it just starts to get ridiculous. the front went down 7.5" with musII frontend w/ 2" dropped spindles and the rear was stepped 4.5", 2" dropped coils, and 3" blocks. the rear tires just clear the inner fender wells and the front wheel wells had to be tubbed a couple of inches, and the hood hinges modified because they would hit. But hell yah it will be worth it win all the bitches turn their heads as i cruise by.
