Steve, I'd guess that your's ended up with some new springs in it's recent past up front, as it looks a bit tall in the saddle up there. Doing the dropped coil pockest up front that myself and someone else on the previous page suggested, plus a trim of a coil would get you down a bit.

In the rear, the blocks are a good way to go, but I would combine that with a de-arch of your rear springs to pull it down another couple of inches. Your really can't go down too far with these cars with their stock suspension, as you really run out of room very quickly. my car is on a full boogie ch***is with a Zee'd and modified Mustang II front section, and a custom built rear half, and it's ride height for the last twenty years has been 3 1/2" at it's lowest point on the frame rails.

I don't think you need a spacer on these early ones, the spring plate is on top of the A arm at the factory, so you just knock the rivets out and bolt it onto the bottom, gives like a 2 1/2" drop. I can doublecheck my '40 against my '48 but I'm pretty sure that's how they go.

I've heard nothing but terrible stuff about repop visors, poor fit and poor manufacturing, plus they're more expensive than a nice used Fulton. The visor, skirts, and full caps is a lowrider bomb look more than a hot rod or custom, but if that's what you're going for, this car can pull it off. Buy a nice used Fulton off of eBay, the most complete one you can find, expect to pay around $400 for it. Don't cheap out on a ****py one. Fultons are adjustable width and you can take it off without leaving any holes in the exterior of the car if you change your mind.

Now that I think about it, you might just be right. I used the stock suspension under my car for about 3months 20 years ago before I realized it just wasn't going to work for my needs.

Just picked up a used Fulton visor for $370 shipped.

skirts arrived today now just to find the right hcaps and lower it.

Squablow, if oyu can double check about the spring plates, thatd be great. for the rear, 4: lowering blocks and ?

  5. Don't bother cutting the coils. Relocate the bottom spring plate to the underneath of the A-arm, then get a pair of new Ford Aerostar coils, part # CC850. I scored mine on ebay, brand new, Moog, made in the USA, 35 bucks shipped. They fit right in, give a better ride, and are about 2" lower than stock coils. Plus, you're not riding around on worn-out 60+ year old springs.
Those two mods will net you about 4 to 4 1/2" drop.

You have a P15 2door sedan or coach which in Moparworld is a fairly rare beast, lots more 4doors annd coupes around than 2door sedans.

  9. Looks like you're just supposed to drill a hole into the underside of your fender lip and attach them with a nut. Seems like kind of a lousy arrangement. First, drilling the hole. Second, trying to reach your arm up to get the nut on. Royal ***pain, if you ask me.

Your wheels are probably too shallow to run those spinner caps, my guess is they hit the center of the wheel before the rim? Those single bar "flipper" caps would probably fit, and are a bit more period looking (late 40's or early 50's) than the ones you bought (late 50's)

it looks like the flipper caps would fit for sure.

i really liked the cross bars ones though.

any other ones that you think would fit?

The spring plate is just riveted on. I moved my plates to the bottom and put the moog springs in. The tops of the tires are leaning in to much. This is on my 39 coupe, but I'm pretty sure they are the same frame and suspension.

  15. Heres a pic of my 48 sedan. I'm running rear leaf springs from a 49 plymouth. It has the same number of leafs but has less of an arc. In the front I chose to heat the springs to get a drop. Im in the process of moving the lower A arm mount plate to the bottom of the A arm. Ive heard that this will give you a good drop while maintaining the strength.

I'm running mercs on mine but. If you look at the middle of the rim were those little tab/clips are, I had to take a hammer and pop em off I tried to fold em in but they broke off and it worked out even better

So do you think if I brake off the tabs, the cross bar caps will fit?

Ya I couldn't figure out that for the longest. Its hard to see behind em to cause they get covered as you put on the new caps and it almost seems like the caps are hitting the dust cap? Its those tabs.

So brake off the tabs and the cap should sit inside the inner lip (red ring) and the outer lip is exposed?

Mine really isn't that low, but the pipes make it look lower. I went with the single bar flippers on junkyard wheels off a 50 dodge.

  29. Check out Posies:http://www.posiesrodsandcustoms.com/posies-catalog/ They have 3" rear lowering springs for the rear & 3" dropped spindles for your car (page 38). I had stock 75 year old leaf springs w/3" blocks in the rear of my '38 Plymouth Coupe for a couple years....didn't like how the U-bolts were below the rim. I installed Posies rear lowering springs, but it wasn't as low as with the old springs & blocks. I removed a couple leafs & got it down close to where I want it-still may add 1" blocks. The fronts are parallel leafs also (last year for this) & originally I was going to remove a few leafs but found 1 of the eyes was broken off one end. I had custom leaf springs made & also removed a couple leafs to get it where I wanted up front. Here are a couple pics as it currently sits (sorry for the bad angles). Good luck.
