Is a v8 60.tube axle cool? I have a really good one and am planning on using it on my little banger. I think its a nice change from the dropped I beam you can buy and it gives me the dirt track look I'm kinda going for I have all the spindles and stuff plus it came out of a old track roadster.
Now you see why I asked I never see them and I think its cool as all shit dare to be different without looking like a hodge podge of shit Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Anyone find info on how Ford made them? I think a guy on here can drop one, if desired..Um, maybe 296Duece....
Damn cool on any dirt car, and i think there is a law that all Bonneville drop tank cars run one. Bob
I have one under a '48 Anglia that I would like to sell, complete drum-to-drum, except that it has been (neatly) narrowed 6" to fit the Anglia body. $150 Email me if interested.
What are good front brake for this setup I really want to fab a set of sprintcar disks like I did on my dads track roadster but that's not without its own set of problems like ungodly wear and they squeak like a house full of mouse Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Shameless plug...drop dead gorgous chromed V8 60 axle I'm not using at this time...yes, it's for sale...$1000.00...comes with its own designer condom.
She's a beaut! Do ya also have the obligatory 60 hp king pin lock bolts? They don't grow on trees. DD
Here's a whole thread about them. Check it out: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=373406
I think you should check into how you intend to locate that tube, such as split Ford wishbones, or even hairpins. The tube axle became very popular from Super Bell in conjunction with Pete and Jake's 4-bar setup. The '37 Ford tube is much lighter and has a reputation for being less reliable than the I-beam counterpart. The tubes are attractive, but I haven't heard good things about them. I hate to shit in your messkit, and I hope to be wrong, but you might talk to some old rodders/racers before you begin. I have heard of the tubes cracking and breaking, but never an I-beam. I don't know the circumstances, but wanted you to know. Tube axles are rigid while I-beams flex.
The v8 60 axle was something of an experiment for Ford. They were looking for a manufacturing process that would be cheaper and produce lighter axle. They tested the concept in v8 60 cars because they were lighter and the axle was not as robust. v8 60 axles are open tubes and can be badly rusted inside. buyer beware. That said the dropped V8 60 axle under the Roy Brizio built 2013 AMBR is a gem. Greg Haynes at Ansen Dropped Axles did the job.
