Looking for ideas for a hanging pedal assembly to use in my '41 coupe. Plan is a GM Vette style MC. I know nothing is going to "bolt right in" but, looking for some place to start. It is going to be an automatic trans so, a clutch pedal is not an issue. I guess the main thing would be pedal length and a bracket that doesn't have too many weird bends in it.
Speedway and almost all of the performance brake vendors sell universal kits. Most have a piece of square stock that goes from the back of the firewall to the back of the dash with a hanging pedal. Cut it to length then mount the booster on the engine side of the firewall. The booster bolts attach to the bracket on the square stock sandwiching the firewall. This is an easy part to fabricate once you see a picture.
I used a GM G body pedal assy in my old 48, welded some 1/8 plate to the inside of the firewall to strengthen it, if I recall I used an S10 smallish booster and the master was from an impala that was in the yard .
I put a 81 cutlass M/c in a 54 chevy sedan once, I think the 48 firewall is close to the same. I welded up the oval cut-out, and braced the firewall back to the dash/column mount. i used the stock cutlass bracing, it worked out real good.
Not sure if you have done the master cylinder but figured I would weigh in. My dad put pedal setup from a 55 chevy into my 41 chevy coupe when he had it. this included the master cylinder. I changed out the single reservoir mc to a dual reservoir unit. 68 chevelle unit worked for me.
S-10, they are easy to remove and to find in manual or automatic setups in most junk yards. 8" booster and you are in business takes very little in the way of fabrication.
84 Cutlass, used the complete pedal assembly, master cylinder, rear axle, front clip engine, tranny and even the steering column in my kids 48 sedan, all went in smooth..............
this was in mine until I went the 3 pedel mount and put it underneath. http://www.innovativerod.com/page3.htm#3001 SWINGING BRAKE PEDAL
