I picked up this 40 chevy coupe about a year ago and finally got some other projects finished up so now it's time!! It had a early 70's firebird front stub on it when I got it, but it was not on there very pretty, and it didn't lay frame with the suspension bottomed out. The plan is to cut off the stub, Z on a 63 bel air clip, step notch the rear and get it down where it should be. The previous owner had also installed firebird leafs on the back and a positrack g-body rear axle. The leafs have to go and a new ladder bar type air bag suspension will replace it. Power will probably a 350/200r4 I pulled out of a 62 bel air this spring. That's all I got for now, let the choppin began!! H] Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Better wheels, no rear leafs and coils pulled out. Close bit no cigar on elevation.... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!

Nice! I'm working on a 40 sedan, this will be a good education for me. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Got a few more things done on the 40 lately. The 63 stub is in place a tacked on straight and square (with a lil help). I z'd it about 4 1/2" so it should lay frame and then some now. Next is to finish up welding in the stub and notch the rear. Stay tuned! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Tonight I got the side plates tacked into the z, hopefully tomorrow I can get the end plates welded in and complete the z, then it's time to tackle the rear step notch. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
The front end is all welded up and done now. Got the frame set back in the ground to figure out how much step in the rear. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
The rear step notch is done. Now I'm going to start building the rear suspension. Prob gonna go with a ladder bar type with a watts link setup. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Great job on the rear. What exacty is the difference of a step notch and a c notch? what is the benefit of one over the other?
Thanks. I think the main difference between the two is in c-notches I've done on other things is I left the rails in place, but cut out a half circle piece above the axle and welded in a half section of 6-8" pipe instead of completely changing the frame rails. Works good if you don't won't to cut of the floors, but it wasn't gonna get me low enough for this project. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Over the weekend I got the trailing arms put in place and the air bags mounted onto the arms. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
