yes, its true, we took it out for the maiden voyage today. took two spins around the neighborhood. needless to say it handles like a battleship. it was loud, slow, wide-turning, and incredibly dangerous. I loved it. tons of work has been done on it since my last update. most of which was done under the hood. the clutch has been redone, a new e-brake cable, etc. mostly easy, little things to get it drivable. now im tired of working under the hood and want to get on to the outside. it will soon be all black primer. I will get vids of the first and second ride up tonight. celebratory chili will be served tonight.
Congratulations,I remember my first ride around the block in my Deuce pickup,,the grin couldn't be removed with a side grinder! HRP
Odd about the handling. My '58 is very nearly the same car and it drives quite well even with the tall front springs and flipped shackles. Take a look at your shocks and make sure it has the factory sway bar installed.
thanks fellas, and yes, its a f-100, not a fairlane. though one of those would be nice I pulled it out of its garage where my little OT car now resides and tonight I taped it up to get ready to finish the primer job. for those of you who didn't see pics before, half is a "nice" coat of black primer and the other half is still the original paint that is spotted with primer and currently quite ugly. I will get pics of my beautiful tape job (no quotations there, I did a real good job) up hopefully within the hour.
yeah saw it and had to have it imma have to watch the video, cause all ive seen is the beautiful pictures
here she is outside: and some pics of that lovely tape job, its the kind that is so good it hurts a bit to take it off hopefully I can get the vids of us driving around in it but ive never posted a video on here so it may be awhile. Im a 16 year old with the computer skills of a 60 year old sorry for the ****ball photos I took them with my phone. I tried to clean them up as much as I could but it didn't seem to work.
Awesome! Always a good feeling. Don't forget celebratory beer with your chili! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
well much things have happened since my last post. small things, but important things. when we took it out for a drive that one time, it idled and reved nicely, but as you slowly accelerated it stalled and cut out and farted and burped and backfired and such. well after some advice from my grandfather we adjusted the timing and the carb, and now it runs great, skips a little here and there but behaves for the most part. plus I put the tailgate back on and other small things like greasing the front end. will update as soon as I can.
Cool man glad to hear! Just keep at it, and she'll be a good cruiser! Sorry but I just barely realized you're only 16. Disregard my earlier beer comment
yeah I get ya man btw I love your signature. anyway when we drive the truck it behaves pretty darn well. but it will skip and cut out occasionally like a scratched record. does anybody know what this could be and how to fix it? I think its a piston misfiring, cause we had problems with piston 1 not going.
For the uninformed, could you please (re) post your engine combo. Could be a number of things from mis adjusted carb float to worn distributor. -kevin
Thanks! Have you rebuilt the carb? How's the distributor? Are the weights sticking? Is the timing right? Might also want to hook up a vacuum gauge to MANIFOLD vacuum and drive it around while monitoring the gauge. A vac gauge will tell you a lot. Check all this basic stuff since ignition and fuel system symptoms are similar. Good luck!
its a 292 with a three on the tree, carb is a brand new holley two barrel, distributor is somewhat new with is guts recently replaced. im gonna run it today and see if I can figure it out. will update as soon as I can
Okay it's go time now my buddy drove up to school today in his project car, a 70's ford f250 (ugly as **** but cool) so I've been beaten in the race to drive to school. But I will win the beauty contest. Gonna put taillights on it as soon as I can, and try to get it street legal.
well taillights are coming along smoothly. since ive been busy for the past few days so I haven't been able to work on em', ive had a big mess of wiring seeping out of every crack and crev***e of my trucks rear end. having a few issues with the taillights lighting, but me and my dad who is a master of electric what-nots is working on it. more to come soon.
Try to learn as much as you can about electrical from your pops. Electrical scares/confuses a lot of people, so if you get good at it you're at a big advantage.
yeah it is quite scary but its pretty dern simple on this truck, my grandpa has a 27' t-bucket (not at ALL traditional) that is sitting in one of his garages that is just a bird's nest of wiring, but apart from that, its drivable. ive tried to work on it but have only come out sweaty handed and with a headache. now THAT thing is difficult. im glad my truck is as simple as it is. apart from that useless info I still haven't gotten out to work on it. gotten down from anywhere to 60-30 degrees down here (shut up northerners that's COLD in Alabama) and mid terms aren't making my life any easier on top of that. so may be awhile before I can get on it, you guys know how winters and projects mix, or don't mix that is.
"16 year old with the computer skills of a 60 year old". That just killed me!! Dude, youre badd***. Watch your Dad and learn to harness the wire dragon. 292 is a fantastic motor. If in doubt check the condenser on the side of the dist. If the wire is just a little funky it will cause the skip.
hahaha thanks man, I hate to say it but its true yeah I love this 292 soo much, the only thing I hate, and I mean really friggin hate, is the placement of the distributor. it is such a ***** to deal with, but other than that, its really a fantastic engine, a lot less headaches than working on my dad's OT cars. I haven't been able to drive it lately (got back up to 70 degrees today WTF?) but my dad surprised me with a load of some high end wiring and equipment the other day he nabbed from work. so I have no reason to not be working on it.
got the taillights goin the other day. then took it for a drive. not much to do on it now till it heats up again. may go out and finish the primer job soon
we just had a freeze wave down south, ice all over the f*king place. luckily it warmed up enough today that I drove home from school with both windows down(wtf?) ive done a few small things here and there, just fixed a fuel hose leak. ill be hitting a few shows this week, so hopefully that'll give me some motivation to get it going again. for new readers of this thread you're probably wondering what my plans are for this truck. well, im planning on doing a kustom, with a late 50's early 60's theme. right now im contemplating on doing a satin finish on the body, and then some paneling on the roof. maybe some lace, scallops, fade, all that fun stuff. mild lowering, some colored steelies to match the body, probably a drawer-pull grille, and some nerf bars to finished the job (as far as I know no one has ever put nerf bars on one of these trucks.) im ALWAYS open for ideas, so if you have any other cool stuff I could do, don't hesitate to tell me.
