I want to get a Vega style steering box for my 32 hiboy roadster project. Anyone know of a unit that is US made. I do not want to use offshore junk for this important safety item. Thanks in advance

I think at one time Flaming River made a Vega box, and if I remember right it was made in the USA

Borgeson is now the OEM manufacturer and remanufacturer
of Saginaw manual steering gears. Borgeson
Saginaw manual steering boxes are ***embled to the same
demanding standards as our precision u-joints. Each box is
carefully ***embled, adjusted and inspected to our factory
specifications. Borgeson offers both standard crossover
steering boxes or reversed boxes for side steer applications.
These steering boxes are made in the USA and have a 3 year
    warranty.

Fortunately, I haven't had to look for a Vega box,,,I bought several years ago when they were plentiful and the junk yards had a lot of Vegas.

I'm down to one box waiting for the next project. HRP

The Flaming River boxes are all made in house as of 3 years ago. Quality has improved greatly, much nicer casting.

Hey, HRP, a very close cousin of the Vega is the GM 525. It mounts on the same bracket as the Vega and is just a bit larger, with a larger sector. It is recommended for any fat-fender car since it comes from Chevy IIs. I enjoy your comments; hope to see you at Austin, April 4-5, for the Roundup.

I wouldn't give em another $ of mine. They offer a "lifetime warranty" that covers nothing and it cost me almost $200.00 to fix a mustang box that was manufactured with the wrong input shaft -( as in 1 1/2" too long ) and could not be installed so it had zero miles on it. Their at***ude was pay to correct it or take a hike. Never again will I buy or sell one of their products. Go with the Borgenson

  14. I went through 3 F R Vega style boxes about 8 years ago in my fat fender Ford.
Maybe it's true that quality has improved but I find that questionable.
All of mine expired at the 1500 mile mark. Loose and sloppy.

Loose sloppy and crunchy with very little miles on mine - Switched to Borgeson and have been very happy. You couldn't give me a flaming river steering box.

Mine also is Borgeson and so far it's OK. Steering ain't a place to experiment with unproven parts, IMO. And until we start getting reports of improved quality, why buy anything that has such a bad reputation.
Manufacturers need to uinderstand that getting Chinese or other imported junk and rebranding it with a well known name is a good wy to destroy their business. Better to start out with a quality part and not try to make a quick buck.
