I would much rather use wintergreen oil it is available at just about any drug store. The plus side is it smells really good other than some of the other stinky **** I have used before.

there is 4 penetrating oils that I use and have yet to find something that one of these 4 cant get undone in no specific order here they are.

    1-mouse milk
    2-krol oil
3-wintergreen (Methyl salicylate) and it smells good too
4-homebrew (50/50 acetone and atf) shake well before use

At 69 I've used every concoction that was ever conceived. After my first can of Gibbs brand I was sold........haven't used anything else since. Got to be a reason that the FBI and most law enforcement agencies around the county won't use anything else on thier firearms and handcuffs.

OP specifically inquired about Ballistol. Please try to answer his question instead of turning this into yet another "my favorite penetrating oil" thread.

  8. We use the ATF/Acetone 50/50 mix. Must try the winter green...

I appropriate it but don't worry about it,,this is the hamb after all ,,I'm seasoned and thick skinned,,that's just how it works some times.

If the thread runs long enough someone will speak up that has used it. HRP

No I haven't heard of it. Until now. Says it a cleaner lube, not a penetrant.

Their words ,not mine but they plainly use the word penetrate! HRP

Ballistol cares about our planet, and we are committed to producing an environmentally friendly product. With Ballistol, you will lubricate, penetrate, clean, protect, and preserve your equipment without contaminating the environment.
Ballistol is biodegradable, and neither its use nor its disposal will pollute our air or water. Its natural decomposition will not produce byproducts that are harmful to the environment. The aerosol propellant is a propane/butane blend that does not contain CFCs. In addition, Ballistol is non-carcinogenic and skin safe.

Maybe that is what a museum curator was using when I asked what she was using to remove the rust from a painted fender. It smelled like wintergreem and she refused to tell me what it was.

Nice lady, to bad that she smelled so much when I accidently spilled the gallon of it all over her.

  22. Ditto.
    I'm 100% behind this product.:D

I use it on guns all the time and I have tried it in the shop as well. Seems to penetrate and clean well.

I've used Ballistol on my guns and it works pretty good if ya can get past the smell. It stinks just as bad as PB blaster.

Typically penetrants and lubricants have different properties.
