Hi, I came across these headlights and am not quite sure what they are for. I have never seen any with a rear mount like these have. The lenses are stamped stabilite and the total diameter of the face is 10". I have included images to help identify them. Thanks, Frank
Stabilite Lens were/are a aftermarket manufacture that made lens for almost every known automobile produced before the advent of sealed beams. The lens should have a number on it somewhere. If you can find a number that might help identify what the headlights are. HRP
Thanks for your quick reply. The part number on the outside rim of the lens appears to say "PART NO CB-671 IGC." Not quite sure if thats the number you need. The only other number on the lens besides that part no is a patent number 1345073 Thanks, Frank
My limited information doesn't list the CB-671 although it does list several lens in the CB 314 through CB 5726 series,,,sorry I can't be any more help. HRP
Thanks for trying, I've been looking for the answer for a long time, maybe someone else on here will know and tell us both. Thank you for your hard work Frank
stabilite was also used as OEM lighting for some US brands of cars, not aftermarket only. My 32 Nash has that brand. When I needed a new lens, the old parts warehouse crossed the lens number to one he did have, and it fit a White truck I believe. There was no difference that I could see between the two part numbers. His book would cross the lens to a specific car or truck. have you tried a google search with the number and brand name?
I have tried that, however the lenses seem to fit so many different things. The buckets/housings are what im actually trying to identify, not the lenses. I just thought the lenses would be a gateway to the housings. I have looked at old nashes and other vintage cars and still can not find one with a rear end mount like these have. All that i have seen are the bottom mount with the exception of motorcycles, however i believe these are to large for that application, plus i have two of them lol. I don't suppose the "old parts warehouse" could help me here? do you have any contact info? These headlight housings are stumping me. .....(some time later) I don't suppose i could be lucky enough to have found it? could this be the correct car? Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Please let me know what you think....Hudson_Terraplane_4-D_Sedan_1938???
Do you have a definate list of what that exact part number fit? as far as year/make? Then, if it was just a dozen or whatever, you then look up each car on the net to compare. In my case, he did not have the exact number lens. His book gave every measurement off of the lens, there are quite a few measures, not just OD. Then he crossed over in his book, one Stabilite lens that had measures very close, and he could see what that lens fit; IE:33 White Truck. I say no. Based on lens design. Car makers followed trends, and that slight convex lens would be around 32, 33, perhaps some 31 By the mid 30s, lenses took on a bug eye shape, with a very noticable convex. like 36 Ford for example. I would think that 38 is also more convex than yours.
Unfortunately I do not have a list. I have just been going off of google searches. It would be wonderful to have such a list however i would not begin to know how to acquire one. Google seems to be turning up empty corners. I see what you mean about the shape of the lenses. I didn't know exactly when they changed to the "bug eye". But thanks to you i learned something new for the day. Please feel free to shoot more ideas my way. I "WILL!!" figure this out one way or another. Thanks, Frank
I wanted to thank everyone who gave me input on this situation, I believe that i have finally figured out what these headlights are for. If my research is correct then they are for a 1931-33 Fageol Buss. Thanks again everyone Frank
