maybe just a lack of TV, video games, and junk food. Eating farm raised meat and vegetables instead of the chemical and hormone laced shit we feed our kids today, and the fact that they probably spend most of their waking hours outside burning off the fat may have a lot to do with it. Maybe we're so used to looking at fat people today, that thin ones just look odd to us now.

 

Another arrogant, snide comment from one of the usual sources. Is that supposed to be funny? It isn't. Hard times for these kids in those days is nothing to laugh about. BTW, some people are just skinny. It has nothing to do with their nutrition or economic state.

Too funny! Anticipated the shows with automobile sponsors. Especially near October when most were revealed.

 

Good for you fbi9c1. When I was a kid in the 50s,I was as skinny as that kid. I was neither poor ,undernourished or anorexic. Just a skinny kid! I am now 63 , 6feet tall and weigh 175lbs and still eat and drink what I want. Some of us are built that way. Some people just make ill-informed comments!

What would be the point of lengthening an already enormous rear overhang. Think it's the angle and color that accentuates the rear.

These cars do not have an "enormous" rear overhang. I can draw a line where the stock overhang ends and there are a couple of feet of extension beyond that. I take it you have not examined the photo closely enough to detect the paint difference. It is not the angle of the photo. The question is not whether it is extended, it is why it was extended. I presume you are not familiar with these cars or you would know that.

Indeed! Can't think of a worse thing to do for stability on car that's towing a trailer.

 

When I was that age back in the early and mid 60's, I was that size too, as were most of the kids back then. I remember in my classes that there may have been one or two "big-boned" kids if any,they took some awful teasing at times back then, but now they are the norm, and skinny kids the exception, and now they take the brunt of teasing...hence the original comment.

We never stopped in the summer time, baseball, bikes, fishing, canoeing, climb trees, build "coasters" out of a plank and lawn mower wheels held on with spikes.. we'd have time for a fluffernutter or a bowl of spighettios for lunch and be gone on new adventures till dinner or dark...

Life in Maine then was safe, comfortable, a day lasted a lifetime with none of the fears or pressures of today.

i didn't get to 100lbs. until 8th/9th grade (1972), both my boys were at 100lbs. by 6th grade (2000,2001)

 

Back when that picture was taken, kids living on a farm didn't sit around. Everyone had chores to do and was busy sunup to sundown. And most walked to school and back every day. There wasn't any junk food or sweet drinks, either. And no TV.

I was a city kid, but when I enlisted in the Navy, I wore size 28 trousers.

I see by your Avatar you are still slim! I agree with most on this subject. In fact at 74 I'm still a skinny energetic kid. Cute too! As stated, there were very few "big boned" kids then. Now most from early childhood to my age are lazy fat asses with diabetis.
Still why complain when another member comments about starving kids or other reasons some were either large or small? Let's enjoy the journey back in time.
My comment to my wife on that photo of three 10-12 year old boys was wonder how often they fell off? Her reply was that barefoot boy looks just like our 24 year old did at that age. We see things differently in pictures.
