    Howdy everyone.

I recently put an edlebrock intake and Holley carb on my Mercury flathead. Problem is the stock fuel pump won't fit on the new manifold. Dang. I looked at new, electric fuel pumps, but I like the look of the mechanical pump. Plus I have not found a satisfactory way of capping off the port in the intake for the mechanical fuel pump if I go with an electric.

The easiest thing would be to get a 1/4 or 3/8 inch riser to go under the mechanical fuel pump, but then I'd need a longer pump rod as well. But this would lift the pump a bit so it would not bump into the intake. Basically, it's close now--half the hole I need to get a bolt into is showing.

    What do y'all recommend?

Any way of grinding clearance in the manifold. That is what I would look at first.

I agree it would be best to remove some material from the intake if possible. How about some pictures

I had that idea as well. I did grind a bit off the fuel pump housing as well. I just don't know how thick the manifold is at that point. If I knew it was 1/4 inch thick, 1/8 grinding might be enough. I just don't know if it's 1/4 inch thick.

Sorry for the lack of pics. The area is hard to get to. I tried to get some pics, but either the lens is so close you can't tell what you're looking at or so far away you can't see the problem.

I'll bust out the dremmel tomorrow and see about relieving the area to see where that gets me.

Opening up the mounting hole on the pump might help too.

Something is not right here and I would recommend that you refrain from grinding anything until you fully understand the problem. Maybe you do understand it, but your description is hard for ME to understand.

Is the manifold correct for the model year of your engine (i.e. 1948 and earlier or '49 to '53?). You don't say what engine model you are working with. IIRC, there is a difference in the mounting of the fuel pump between early and later. Are you sure you have the correctly matched parts (fuel pump stand, pushrod and fuel pump) for your application?
