did you ever do this? I am tossing the idea arounda s well. I have done this in a rockcrawler, but never in a car I drive on the street.

Lacking use of a wind tunnel, I'd put a few box fans on high speed in front of the mocked up truck and hold a streamer (piece of light ribbon) on a stick and move it around above and under the bed to find out exactly what the wind/airflow wants to do on it's own, then modify with scoops if necessaryto get it to go your way.
A scoop under neath could be used either to suck air in or turned rearwards to suck it out.
where do leaves/butts/jerkey wrappers go in the open bed of a truck?
    Up near the cab?
You may find the air wants to go through your radiator the opposite way you think it would, or even reverse at different speeds.

  7. my son wants to make his radiator part of the tailgate...i.e. make an outer frame and put a crossflow radiator in the middle of the gate with 2 fans inside on the gate. He wont have a floor in the bed. should the fans be pull or push style?

I would think pull from ground and out gate, seems like road travel air would come up the bottom of frame and out gate. I am thinking of doing mine similar(out the gate) so that it is easy to access and work on. I have yet to see any type of screen or grill that looks great on a rear mount system.

If you are using a thermostat no need to have tubing over 1 inch to flow water to the radiator. This means the flow is restricted to around 3/4 inch any way. I tried this on a circle track racer. I never had the time to work out the bugs as the rules were clairfied to say radiator must be in front of the engine one rad only... ..

  10. Since this thread has been resurrected from 2007 I would think the rear mounted radiator would not be considered pertinent to today's refocusing of the Hamb. HRP

I mounted a radiator about 10 ' away from the motor on a car and I went to a hose specialty shop to get a flex hose to connect them.

I gave them the specs, heat, pressure resistant to antifreeze and size and they came up with a hose that surprised me. Air hose, 1&1/2' dia. 300# working pressure! The price was right too!

The best part is while it ran through the pass. compartment, I diden't have to insulate it as it was so thick.
