Guys, I'm contemplating selling a stovebolt setup I have - a Nicson valve cover, and Nicson 2 pot intake, with 2 core BC Rochester carbies, and aircleaners. anyone interested?
I Believe it's a 235 head? 1-1/2 port. I know several guys running the larger 302 intakes .1-3/4 ports,on the small port 270 head, 1-7/16 ports, using available reducing bushings. The guys report better power using a 94 Holley carb....These are not parade trucks and are driven on road trips.I had my doubts about such shit, but hey,I claim better power from a hogged out stock intake with a two barrel. Snarl,Rube Goldberg? you bet I do shit like that. It's called Hot Rodding
Hey Dusty, did you find that in NZ? I have a matching valve cover that came from down your way. That's overkill for a 216, you'd better sell it to me for my 261.
No, no, no, you gotta send the valve cover here In the '70's my friend and I both had '39 sedans , mine had a hot '50 216, his had the hot '39 with this tri carb on it, (ok so his was cooler LOL) many yrs later , I met the new owner of the car and he had just detuned the 216 and had this manifold still in his shed.....
Another Tattersfield. Not polished like Flop's (post #103). I hand sanded my Edmunds intake to a shine, but I don't know how to deal with all the raised letters on the Tattersfield. (Lots more than this picture shows.) Can someone suggest how it's done? Edmunds.
Ha my bad. That's what I was trying to say. 2x1. To bad it's gone now. Replacing it with dual su's from an early 50's jaguar and a homemade aluminum manifold. Then bolting it to a dohc, crossdraft, hemi style combustion chamber head that I'm building...
I have been running 54' Corvette dual exhaust manifold with YH sidedrafts on a 235 in 54' Bel Air 2dr. sedan for some 30,000+ miles in the past 7/8 years. Have that side of the engine down to replace gaskets & to clean stuff up. Have a Thickstun "Dogbone" & 2 Carter W-1's and since I run the car without the hood, thought this could be fun to have a couple of carbs stickin up there for spectator enjoyment... Not to be, before ordering expensive carb kits, thought to compare intake/exhaust base gasket finding a 216 manifold is narrower than a 235, and the bolt patten is not doable...I visited a man recently at a Puyallup swap, years ago he ran a 57' chevy with a dogbone setup said it ran hard. Would be fun to find out...Dyno
I've been running my dog bone Thickstun on the Hoodlum and it works well. The ports needed a lot of work to open them up to match the 838 head.Running Stromberg BXOV-2 carbs rebuilt by dickster27 Good to see the continued interest in this thread. Thanks.
Here are a few that are from those days. Some (like the Harper) were unusual but were used by many in that era. I still use some today. Normbc9
I've got a header like the one in the Harper picture. The only place I've ever seen it listed is in an early '60s Sears automotive catalog.
I'm sure most of you guys have seen my new project but here it is. Thanks to Dick (XDERELICT) for the inspiration to make this a reality. HAMB Thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=793625 Photo archive http://public.fotki.com/Rosebudcustoms/
I wish. As I'm sure you know, this shit's getting hard to come up with. Some of it's not hard to find, but hard to pay for!
It's the original engine design that was used from '29-'36. I've never seen any sort of performance parts for this engine other than a Mallory dual point distributor. You could always weld/braze a couple of carb risers on top of the stock intake manifold.
Been following this thread off and on. I've really enjoyed it and it's great to see it again. Here's a rare beasty I picked up a few years back and a bit from the Nicson catalog. In the background is the 2 carb Nicson I ran on a 302 in my work truck. Nicson for big port GMC 270H or 302:
Here's mine. Traded for it @1979, misplaced it...looked for it off and on at Dad's place in the shop. Fast forward to 2011...found it in a scrap aluminum barrel next to the old chicken house/shed. Fits a 235 from what I could see. Now what to do with it? PM me with any suggestions.
Back to the top with my Nicson. Got this thing for 50 bucks before I knew what it was. I got lucky and got all the original linkage. Took about 10 hours to polish because I did it all by hand. I think it turned out nice though.
Here's a two-piece blower manifold produced by James Larrowe of JJ Inlines on my 235 Stovebolt. Still in the mocking up stage at this point.
