I have a '30 model A ford Four door sedan and I am going to turn it into a Tudor, anyone here done this? are the front doors the same?
No. The 4 doors have a much shorter front door. Does it have a vertical windshield with a visor, or is it a slanted windshield?
Good God. Don't butcher that car up. Fordors have m***ive amounts of structural wood in them and, unless you are a talented coachbuilder, you will destroy a nice A. There's nothing wrong with four doors
I would have to agree and say sell the whole car and buy a Tudor sedan, or sell the body and swap a Tudor body onto the ch***is.
Sell it and buy a Tudor. That is too nice to cut up just to make something you can buy. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I agree with the other guys. It's nuts to create a ton of work for yourself trying to turn a car into what is readily available. There were 4,849,340 Model A's built so even today they are not that rare. Sell the car or body and buy a Tudor is the best advice I can offer. HRP
I actually like the four door . You didn't ask, but I also wouldn't cut it up to make a two door...even if I did like the two door better. I have a slant windshield '31 four door that is all original and in similar condition to yours. The wife and I, my son, and three of his friends piled into to go get ice cream.....Lot's of fun. Easy access to a huge backseat. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Agree, don't rod that one, find another, rougher or a two door! Having said that, I'd much rather have a rodded model A than a stock or restored one.
Don't do it. Buy a 2 door and do a body swap. The 2 door bodies are easier to work with since they have a lot less wood than the 4 door, at least in the US. Charlie Stephens
When it comes to Model A's the 4 door coach built cars really hold their value. Everyone wants one now so they can carry the whole family. Sell it for good money and buy a tudor.
I think the car pictured does have a lot of structural wood....Door structure, maybe even the subrails if I remember correctly. Funny thing is, the slant windshield four doors have almost no wood in them. The doors and subrails and all the structure are all steel. Even the floor from the front seat back is steel. Weird. I wouldn't hesitate to rod that car, but I surely wouldn't cut it up to simulate a two door.
Seeing as that is an Aussie 30/31 Fordor the door window opening shape is not the same as a 30/31 Tudor. So to change this one into a Tudor will take loads of work in the side windows and you will still see that it,s not right. Take into account that Australia did,nt officially get the 30/31 Tudor. They had to do with the 28/29 Tudor.
Thats worth more than a Tudor so why waste it. Sell it and buy a Tudor just as good condition for the same money or less and save yourself all the work. !!!!!! Ed
^^^^why bother. You can barely notice when they're missing and the extra windows are kind of a giveaway that it isn't a Tudor. Just leave it alone
I always say, it's just an A. Get to cutting. But in this case I think you are making a big mess for yourself. Those 4 doors have insane amounts of wood in them. If you were to cut it apart and remove all the wood you would just be left with a metal skin. You will be a thousand times ahead if you just buy a tudor body. That being said I understand the feeling of bucking against the grain and doing something people say you can't or shouldn't do.
OK, you've talked me into it, I'm going to leave it a fordor, Just going to fit a nice flat head V8, front end, diff and a set of steelies, that'll do it.
Not to cut in, but I have a 1933 Plymouth 4 door, no sure if it is a PC, PF, or XPC, but the front doors are longer than the doors on a 1933 Plymouth coupe.
Now that sounds more like it! How about 1935 spoked wheels? Look very thirties but you run the same fat 16" tires as the later steel wheels. Look for a 35-39 or 39 top loader transmission. 1940-48 Hydraulic brakes too. Google for the mad insane BDA engined Tudor Model-A in Sweden for inspiration. It's 3:32 min video on YouTube.
