I was getting no fuel to the carb and removed the fuel pump. Upon removal, found aluminum shavings on the fuel pump shaft and inside the block were the pump mounts. There was no oil on the pump shaft that rides on the cam lobe. Also pulled the dip stick and found the same aluminum shavings on it. Any suggestions?

Remove the water pump , The old style pump had no cover over the impeller and could with age grind right thru the timing cover .. no matter which style pump is on it now you will see the damage , unless someone replaced it "the timing cover" ... not alot of aluminum on a SBF , all of it is right there up front , good place to start looking .

Time to pull the front cover. There is a mis-match of parts.
Early and late timming sets, covers or thrust plates, can't quite remember, but I have seen it. The fuel pump eccentric is jammed into the front cover.
I think the timming set has to go with the fuel pump eccentric(both early or both late).
You will also have to get those shavings cleaned out.
    Regards, Tom.
